I'm all for attracting business to the city. The problem is historically when the incentives expire; the companies uproot and move south or overseas.
As for proper flood planning, there is a plan and has been one for years. The problem with the plan is it moves slower than a glacier.
Instead of putting money towards finishing the flood control measures, we have money for football fields and linear trails. All nice and add to the quality of life in town, but don’t add long term jobs.

Fifty percent of the cost of Falcon Field was paid for by the State per legislation approved by the State Legislature. Eighty percent of the cost of the linear trail was paid for by the federal government from funding approved by Congress. City expenditures on flood control are about four times the amount spent by the City on both of the above projects put together. Further funding for the flood control plan has been approved by the State legislature but not placed on the State Bond Commission agenda for approval by the Governor.

Glad you pointed out that tax payer dollars funded the lower priority projects.
I don't care if the Fed or State of CT or Meriden tax payers funded those projects, it's the same pair of pants, the money is being taken from different pockets. This is what the fall elections will be about. WE as tax payers can't afford it.

Default hub/park

yes another park - its what municipalities do for their citizens.

how about a dog park with water AND the monuments?

relocating the monuments into a suitable location could be the start to re-defining the city. where they [monuments] are located now is a shame and a slight to whom they honor.

I'd like to see the municipality create some jobs for it's citizens.
