The North American Barking Spider...

North American Barking Spider
Published by The Journal of American Entomology
Written by Dr. B.R.K. Vind

The North American Barking Spider is an elusive creature never seen but always makes it presence known. It has now spread around the world from pole to pole and from east to west.
From what we have learned this spider comes in many sizes from the raisin sized Freep to the dinner plate sized Triple Flutter Blast.
The scientific name has not been established officially as of yet but I have given it two names for consideration.
Flatuloso Grosso Americanii and Fartus Maximus Americanii.
We have learned that this creature does not bite and therefore is not poisonous. At least not in the normal sense of the word.
When encountered outdoors it is the least offensive as the slightest breeze will make its presence unknown. Although one might notice an audible record to indicate it is in the area.
Indoors is another story altogether depending on the size of the room and the number of people present.
The worst possible scenario occurs in a crowded elevator. I suggest that one leave as soon as the doors open whether or not it is your floor. You can always safely wait for the next car.
This species of spider does not prey on insects, but seems to be attracted to certain types of foods we humans consume.
These items include any form of cabbage cooked or otherwise. The same for broccoli. Certain types of meat products especially when beer is consumed as a beverage. It is very attracted when those meat products are in combination with a form of cabbage known as sauerkraut washed down with beer.
It is not yet known why this is, but worth mentioning for further study.
Avoiding the above food products in no guarantee that the spider will not make its presence known.
I thank you for your consideration of a grant that will allow me to finish this study. And hopefully in the near future one will be captured for further study.

Thee was a thread about obama being called an " african american " that seemed
to lean towards that reference being offensive or not accurate. I can't find that
thread and... in the paper today I noticed what may be the same article now in print.

My question... I asked if the term Mulotto applied to obama ... by definition as he
is half black and white. Now... has the word Mulotto fallen out of favor and / or
is now like the " N " word.... to be shunned by society as demesning to that that
group of people ? Is it to be " re - defined " as the word Marriage is becoming.

Now... I'm not trolling but just want to know if this word is still viable in America
today in reference to that mix of races.

Regarding Meriden’s policy on police department overtime (Record-Journal, May 13, 2012: It would appear that the City of Meriden has surpassed the private sector and most, if not all, other municipalities in Connecticut in granting police officers placed on administrative duty overtime payments, passing the cost on to the taxpayers yet again. Our elected officials should take a greater leadership role overseeing agreement changes if this subject is within their purview. Meriden taxpayers depend upon our City Manager, department heads and all elected officials to put taxpayer dollars to the very best use. This issue is very disappointing and disheartening, and City of Meriden taxpayers deserve better. (It brings to mind other entitlements that were presented to a former School Superintendent and a former Police Chief from Rhode Island.)

I couldn't post the link, but here is the whole article.
I've said before that a third party candidate, while most likely not able to win, might just shake things up a bit by asking the right questions. That would be a big improvement over what we have right now!

Bradley: Third Party Could End D.C. Paralysis

Former U.S. senator and presidential candidate Bill Bradley tells Newsmax that “vicious political combat” is needed in Washington to deal with the “polarization and paralysis” gripping the legislative process.

The New Jersey Democrat also says the failure of both parties to deal with pressing issues could lead to the creation of a third congressional party to “jar” Democrats and Republicans into bipartisan action.

And he predicts that the United States could be headed for “another meltdown” if significant changes aren’t made regarding the financial industry.

Bradley was a star basketball player with Princeton University and the New York Knicks before he entered politics and won a Senate seat from New Jersey in 1978. He was re-elected twice, and ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2000.

Today Bradley is a partner at the investment bank Allen & Company. His new book is “We Can All Do Better,” in which he outlines a program calling on the federal government to provide 30 percent of the cost of hiring new workers, which he says would create at least 7 million new jobs.

In an exclusive interview with Newsmax TV, Bradley explains: “With this proposal not one dollar of federal money would be spent that didn’t create a job. A company would hire someone and not fire anyone, and 30 percent — up to $25,000 — would be paid by the federal government for two years. It would be a $50 billion program. The result would be unemployment dropping dramatically.”

Asked if he has pitched his proposal to anyone in Washington and if they have been receptive, he responds: “Yes, I have pitched it to a number of people, and no, they have not been receptive.”

The reason for that resistance, he speculates, “might be a little bit of ‘not invented here.’”

Asked if the nation needs more fiscal restraint or more stimulus, Bradley declares, “I think we need both.”

“The original stimulus wasn’t big enough. The issue is how do we stimulate good-paying jobs. I think there are a couple of things to consider. One is that nonfinancial corporations have $1.8 trillion on their books in either cash or other liquid assets. The question is how do you get them to spend part of that money on creating jobs in this country.

“I suggest there are a number of things we need to do. One is to address the confidence level. We simply have to get agreement in November on a $3 trillion to $4 trillion deficit reduction package. My hope is that the package would not take effect for the next two years but there would be structural changes in entitlement programs and defense programs and taxes that would lend long-term deficit reduction.

“But deficit reduction isn’t enough. There are 66 million people in America living one paycheck away from economic crisis. The vast middle class has not moved forward. The reason corporations say they don’t hire is there is no demand, so you have to generate demand.

“That’s why I suggest that we embark on a massive infrastructure effort that would have 50 high-priority items on it, like high-speed rail, a new air traffic control system, all of which would be the economic foundation for growth in America for the next 50 years.

“Then you might get some of the money out of the corporate treasuries. If the corporations spent 30 percent of their $1.8 trillion on hiring people, that would result in an employment rate of 5 percent.”

The country needs these kinds of reforms or else “you’re going to have continued polarization and paralysis while the situation gets worse and worse in terms of middle-class families, in terms of investors looking at the long-term deficit, et cetera,” Bradley tells Newsmax.

“Sometime in American politics points of view have been irreconcilable. Right before the Civil War comes to mind. But usually it is decided through vicious political combat. It is bloodless but can be vicious. What happens then is either one side wins decisively and therefore can enact their program, or there has to be bipartisanship.

“If neither the bipartisanship or the dominant victory take place, then that opens the way potentially for a third congressional party to enter the picture as sort of the can-do party. It is the party that lays out the tough positions and could win 20 to 25 seats. It then can be at the fulcrum of power in Congress and maybe jar each of the parties to take on their sacred cows and deal with the issues.”

Bradley commented on the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which President Barack Obama signed into law in July. The law, which was named for its two sponsors, former Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., and Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., covers a vast array of financial institutions from small banks and thrifts to the insurance industry and giant Wall Street traders.

The law “made marginal changes but didn’t fundamentally change the system,” he says.

“There’s too much of a possibility for banks to use depositors’ money to speculate. There’s too much leverage in the system. There is too much lack of regulation of derivatives. And unless these things are addressed we could have another meltdown.

“A really good bank will be able to survive, but how many really good banks that guessed right on everything were there?

“As I point out in the book, I think the financial crisis was the function of public policy mistakes” including the “Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac fiasco where we lent money to people who couldn’t afford to repay it, and the Federal Reserve keeping interest rates so low for so long,” Bradley adds.

He also criticized moneyed interests in Washington for “watering down” needed reforms.

“Money has prevented things from happening. During Dodd-Frank consideration $318 million was contributed to politicians in Washington by the financial industry, $145 million was contributed by the healthcare industry, $75 million by the energy industry. So it shouldn’t be any surprise that we have watered down financial reform.

“Unless we’re willing to do something about money in politics, we’re not going to have a political process that addresses the real concerns of the American people.” Offering his take on Saturday’s election in France, in which socialist Francois Hollande defeated incumbent President Nicolas Sarkozy, Bradley says: “The dynamic was that Hollande ran a better campaign and Sarkozy hadn’t delivered.

“Hopefully Hollande will keep in mind [Francois] Mitterrand (the last Socialist president of France), who went way left when he came in and then pulled back and stayed in the center. That’s where I hope Hollande will be.”

He adds that the election could ultimately have repercussions in the United States if it leads to the collapse of the euro: “If the euro crashed I think that would feed back to the United States in terms of worsening unemployment.”

An animated movie to be sure, but the quality of the animation was lifelike.
I did some research to see how this was done. It is computer generated but using live actors wearing special suits that are scanned and later 'fleshed' out.
The effect gives you motion that caouldn't be done otherwise.
Back to the movie.
When I chose this on Netflix after seeing a trailer, I thought it would be an entertaining kids and family movie. While it is that, there is also a very good plot and story that adults will enjoy very much. We had four adults including ourselves over to watch it.
My choice was made mainly because Steven Speilberg was involved. That pretty much said it all for me and I wasn;t dissapointed on bit.
Check it out. I think you'll enjoy it.

I went to the Home Depot the other day to buy a new cordless drill-driver.
My old Porter-Cable finally wore out and repair parts were very expensive so it was time for a new one.
I looked at all the brands they had there, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Makita, Rigid.
The Milwaukee was expensive, but it is a good solid American brand name. I looked to see where it was made and sure enough Made in China. The same with DeWalt and Rigid.
I went with the Makita. Once a Japanese company but as with almost everything else Made in China. I have a few Makita tools and they have served me well.
My old Porter Cable was made in Taiwan. Might as well say China.
Had any of them been made in the U.S.A. I would have been happy to pay the extra, but sadly it was not to be.
That's all I have to say on this subject.:(

BANG BANG THUD THUD CRASH CRASH. "Eek, Mr Ketchup woke up rather
started. Help Help,!! he shot out of bed and darted so quickly
like an acrobatic on a trampoline however, His foot became trapped,
between the wardrobe. well as you can imagine how painful it was
for poor old Ketchup not a pretty sight. "Get me out of here he
yelled."
and when finally Haggis Neaps arrived just in the nick of time
by Jove it saved his bacon I can tell you.
"oh, My goodness me. "Whatever, has happened inquired his friends?"
"well, You see "I heard an unexpected noise from the hallway, it may have-----
been Tabby,my cat.I think its a possibility that he knocked over the trash can. "He sighed deeply,"
"You all wait here a minute until I come back"?
meanwhile Mr Ketchup groaned my foot hurts
Neaps "shouted, Yes it is definitely the cat".
"That cat is a terrible nuisance," its just not probably housed
trained, at all. "Far from it said Mr Ketchup."
"The poor wee..thing, (sympathized) Neaps, "what a shame for Tabby" Really, "Mr Ketchup You ought not to be so selfish, you know.!!
I'd better take him home to my place for now, okay"?
"Come come now Mr ketchup." At this remark Mr Ketchup just frowned.
"Good riddance, I am very glad to see the back of that cat"
after that haggis attended to his friends foot of course he just
gave him an awkward look.

The very next day Mr Ketchup threw the curtains ajar and Oh my it
looked dull and over cast and all of a sudden the hail stones hit
the path like Goff stones that is so annoying he thought. and Oh how
he hated the hail stones it wasn't his cup of tea absolutely not,
He hadn't much of a choice as Haggis and his friend Neaps were picking him up in their rusty old banger, it would be lucky to make
it to the surgery and back again.

After a long visit to the doctors Mr Ketchup decided to have a cat nap, but just then a spider ran across his cover at top speed how
crazy was that, but Mr Ketchup could spy it from the corner of his eye before it escaped he grabbed a jam jar and threw it over the poor legless wee thing. Well I never he thought this black ragged we thing has only five little hairy legs, aren't they supposed to have eight,!! Mr Ketchup felt really bad because, he acted rather hasty he uttered to himself. "If only I hadn't been so cruel the wee thing didn't stand a chance, "DID IT NOW" OH Red Pepper I have been so stupid haven't I,"
"Come on Mr Ketchup that is quite enough drama for one day. "Answered Red Pepper fetch your new red coat,"
"Okay Okay, stop fussing" and at this they both trotted down the road with the legless spider to the vet..
