I've sailed upon the sea of life,
Rose high with every swell,
Sank low when it was at an ebb,
Enjoyed its taste, its smell.
Sometimes my sails have caught the breeze,
Sometimes they just hung slack,
But always forward went my ship
E'en when I had to tack.
Disaster often at my bow
I always stayed afloat,
A prayer of thanks I've said each day
For such a worthy boat.
But now 'tis time to put to port,
My sailing days are few,
It's time to leave the sea of life
To younger ships and new.
My course is set, I'm going home,
I want to sail no more,
I see the beacon guiding me
And soon I'll reach the shore.
I'll drop my anchor, safe at last
In the port of happiness
Where peace is now awaiting me,
For I have earned my rest.

Sometimes my sails have caught the breeze,
