Although I am a Yankee fan, I will now turn my attention to the Sox (my second favorite team). I think they've got the stuff to be champions again. As for the Yankees, it's time for Joe to go but who to replace him? Girardi? Larusso? Mattingly? Hmmmmm.

You're a Yankees fan but your second favorite team is the Red Sox? I've never heard of that from a Yankees fan or going the other way with a Red Sox fan either. How could there be such a rivalry between the two teams with you if you like them both? That's like a vegetarian saying their second favorite food is an angus burger. To each his own. I could care less who wins now that the Yanks are out. I'm done with baseball until next spring. Watching the Yankees play in this post season was like watching a dog take a dump, and then eating it. DISGUSTING! I shook my head in disgust so much, I'm now wearing a neck brace. The magic of the late 90's is long gone.
That being said, I'd like to say that I appreciate what Posada, Rivera, and Torre have done for the team over the years. However, that era is over. Posada and Rivera will want too much money to be resigned and I don't think they're worth it. If the asking price is reasonable then maybe, but it won't be. Let them go. Torre is over payed and has been for years. Let him go. Bring in Girardi. There will be some new blood in the line-up next year and Girardi is the man to deal with it. As far as A-rod is concerned, if he opts out of his contract, let him go too. As much as I like A-Rod, if he chooses to be greedy and ask for a ridiculous amount of money, then he really didn't want to stay in New York as much as he has said he would like to. He's already proven he lies to the media. I guarantee you he lied about wanting to stay in New York. If he truly wanted to be a Yankee he'd keep the contract and allow some sort of an extension deal. He won't though. He's going to go to the highest bidder.
I'd love to see the Yankees dump all their high priced players like Giambi and bring in young prospects. I want to watch the team build and form a chemistry. I want to buy a players jersey other than Jeters and know they'll be there for at least three years. I'd rather wait 3 or 4 years for the Yankees to make the play-offs again if it meant watching new talent grow. I want to see basic baseball and be able to have faith in the Yankees again. If the Yankees want to spend millions on a player, do it on pitching, and let it be young pitching.
This is the third year in a row the Yankees choked and lost in game four of the ALDS. They should reward their loyal fans by NOT raising ticket prices next year. That won't happen though. Next year is the last year at the old Yankee Stadium and they'll be sure to nail us all for that. The year after that will be the first season at the new Stadium and we'll most likely get slammed again.

I am a Sox fan and was looking forward to the rivalry in the next round. Quite frankly I think the Yanks should be playing the Mets for the series, but that is why they play the games.
As far as the sox go, I am not quick to chirp. I do feel they have a great opportunity to win it all and should grasp it, however there is always doubt.
As far as the Yanks go- are you guys crazy? Get rid of Torre? I guess you enjoyed the 80's then. I have never liked Torre but he is the best man for the job. 12 playoff appearances. I think every team would take that in a heartbeat. How can you kick him out the door when he helped contribute to so many titles. Mattingly hasn't won a ring and with the Yankees. Girardi although manager of the year last year won't right a ship that is not wrong. Remember next year the All Star game is in your park and I actually think Torre should be asked to be one of the coaches on the sideline. Fast forward can you see it now Francona & Torre together on the bench in the one of the most historical parks in the US. What an honor for the greatest manager under Steinbrenner. I bet you would have like to have Bernie in that lineup, but you dismissed him too. Lets show some loyalty to the guys who bring you to October every year. Oh & by the way before you pick up A-Rods option, write Jorge & Mariano a big check. You got the ching..

As a die-hard Sox fan, I truly believe that you are not allowed to root for both! It has to be against some law somewhere!

i think getting rid of joe is the best thing to do for the yank's , and i'm a die hard sox fan however i am am a fan of the game and can call a spade a spade, "like when lofton should of been called safe in game 7 of the sox cleavland series'. i liked torre and thought he handled his job well esp. with all the pressures that go along with that big market/media team. why the yankees dont win it every year is a mystery to me, you can flip their batting order upside down and its still as intimidating, but face it, just like you and me, those guys are getting older and its an awfull long season to perform almost every night. and joe wasnt fielding balls and batting, yes hindsight is 20/20, and he probably should of used some differnt players in the playoffs, but that's the way the chips fall. if they worked out he would of been a hero. but back to the point. thats the nature of sports, when a team doesnt perform to the expectations of the ownership the manager is always the first to go

I like it when Hank Stienbrenner basically said that the Yanks made Joe into a Hall of Famer. So true, so true.. So Joe should not have been upset not to be offered a multi year deal, the performance had been declining and the Yanks are built to win now.. Make A-rod the player/manager, he's got all the answers and money now..

It's certainly not normal to see yank fans who root for the sox...but let's drop our guards for a second...First of all, the rivalry is nothing anymore. When the teams play each other 20 times, it loses its luster come october, truly. Secondly, the Sox are doing EXACTLY what the yanks did in the 90's. It's funny that sox fans so loathed the yankees then, for what they wore, what they stood for, who they had as an owner, etc...., because the sox are doing the SAME things...and, regardless of affiliation, I enjoy the way they play. It's been tough to admit, only because my liking the red sox is met with hatred by my red sox fan compadres.

Thirdly, when Manny said, "who cares"...I totally agreed...I'm tired of getting SO nervous, SOOOO wound up and anxious about winning, because, as a yankees fan, this year was so much more exciting than the last six, because, as long as the team showed up and played hard, I was happy, and when they played hard, they tended to win the games....It wasn't about all the "mystique" and "history" that YES spouts (I hate that stuff), it wasn't about the new philosophy of "win it all or be a total disappointment"...

So, I am a true Yankees fan, one who has been so since time immemorial, and YES, I root for the Sox, because they are NOT as much an enemy to me as some expansion team whose fan base cares on a leap-year basis, whose upper management doesn't necessarily care about baseball, so long as money is rolling in.

Say what you will about the Yankees money, but man, the Sox are no poor group, and the two teams, at the very least, LOVE baseball.
