Hello...

Had a nice discussion at work on this one...

Why would Terrorists consider another attack on the US, considering
it's now, five years later ( ? ) and this country is still reeling from
the effects of the first ( and only ) one. What would be the point ?
A bridge falls in Minnesota and what's the first thing coming from the
news wire... questions about terrorism! Will this knee-jerk reaction
go on forever ?

Not a day passes without it's mention ( 9/11 ) on the news and it's like
we are all waiting for a second foot to fall ? Perhaps Al Queda caused
the cave in of that mine in Utah ?.... get my point ?

Bin Laden HAS to be pleased watching Fox News.

Why, because they can. Because they can show us at any moment in time that they still have the power to do such things.

I'm shocked that the incident with that person that had TB was swept under the rug so fast. I anyone didn't link the possibility of terrorist with that has got to have blinders on.

Not quite what I was looking for.... " because they can " does not
speak to what would be their "gain" ?

It's obvious that a second...third ...fourth attack could be orchestrated
any time...any where... by determined terrorists of the kind that carried
out 9/11. But the object of an act of terror is to instill fear. This was
accomplished in NY. Bin Laden - remember him - is no dummy. He knows
what the results of 9/11 were. He still see's them in every false alarm
raised by the Bush administration and I'm sure that gives him cause to smile.

My opinion ( MY ) is that IF it appeared that America was forgetting
9/11 then a " wake up call " would be necessary. That...is NOT the
case. Our paranoia over the " next" attack, daily, in the press insures
us that there will be no second attack.

If you slap a puppy in the face and he FOREVER fears your hand... there is
no need to keep slapping him.

I think that's what I mean ?

their gain is power. when a handful of zealots brings a country to full alert, that is power.
i'm all for the color coding of alerts, but how come we never see the the colors get scaled down? all i ever hear is that they have been risen to Orange or risen to something else. i don't think i have ever seen them be down graded

I have several thoughts on the subject.
1) Why would the “Terrorists” attack us again? They LIVE here now.

I think we think about terrorism, but many think that it will happen somewhere else and it won't affect them. We put the thought of terrorism in the back of our minds. After 9/11 we thought that the people of the nation would come together and that it would change the way we treated each other. Well, it did not take long for us to become the people we were before the attack. Will we be attacked again? Probably, but maybe if we weren't so divided as a nation, the terrorists would have a much harder time trying to tear us down.

We only get color terror alerts during election years. Expect them to increase again as we approach November.

If you want to be free from terrorism, turn of your TV. The cable news nutworks are the greatest proponents of fear, because fear sells and boosts ratings. Fear also feeds Bush. If he can keep us afraid, we will buy anything he sells.

Our government and society have over reacted to the terror threat so much that OBL must be sitting in his cave laughing.

I'm not saying there wont be another attack at some point. Terrorism is a part of life world wide these days. I just refuse to live my life in fear.

I agree with flatrat on the color changes. The only way McCain can win this November is fear. Polls have shown most Americans trust McCain more than Obama to keep our country safe, and to lead during a crisis. Expect to see more hightened alerts as November approaches because that will help McCain. Expect to hear more about possible attacks being imminent or thwarted attacks as November gets closer. I wouldn't be surprised if another attack occurred close to the elections. Polls show that if that happened, McCain would get a huge boost.

As far as what would be the point to attack us again, maybe the attacks or attempts never stopped. They just haven't had success again. Maybe just the fact that they can hurt us is point enough. Maybe there is no point, and they try to hurt us just to try. Who knows. I don't know how a terrorist thinks.

we wouldn't be in this SENSELESS conflict ! the last Fip-Flop decision will be your legacy, at least ''O'' is talking to the CMDRs att. [ maybe he'll change 16 mos. to 18 or 12] As far as the NEXT Terrorist attack ! don't forget 7/7/07 and Spain and indoneasia and the philopeans' attacks, and don't think that attacks here haven't been THWORTED the last few years.
