Experienced the high light of my summer, probably my whole year, when I went to see Sly and the Family Stone in Hamden last Friday night! Couldn't believe it was for free - part of a summer series done by a Hamden Arts/Cultural group and Quinnipiac College. Wish the City of Meriden, with their new "Arts" theme would get so creative. The Five Satins also played in Hamden. I missed that one but am looking forward to checking the calendar earlier next year. The crowd was friendly; lots of people singing and dancing. Hot fun in the summer time...

I wonder where the funding came from? Meriden does get some good local bands playing at Hubbard Park during the summer but it sure would be nice if some national acts could play there as well during the summer. Unfortunately, the only time "name" performers play in the park is in chilly April. It sure would be nice if that band shell was better utilized during the prime outdoor music season.
East Hartford does a nice job with the annual Podunk Bluegrass festival (http://www.podunkbluegrass.net/) which happens to be this weekend. Wouldn't it be great if Meriden came up with something similar? Keeping the focus on the Daffodil Festival (http://www.daffodilfest.com/) (which is great, but why is the website still showing that the April 2007 festival hasn't happened yet?) seems to leave the park underutilized the rest of the year. Hot fun in the summertime would be great right here in Meriden.

Thanks for the tip - I'm going to be in East Hartford anyways on Saturday and will definitely check out the Bluegrass Festival. The Record Journal has, in my experience, a woefully inadequate calendar of events happening around the state.

At this time there are only 2 days left in [OMG!] Bridgeport for the Vibes event [ http://www.gatheringofthevibes.com/2007/bands ] and I only read about any event AFTER the fact in MyRJ.:( http://www.gatheringofthevibes.com/2007/bands
Sounds Excellant except for the non-citizen of B'port - BTW- PT Banums Seaside Park is a excellant destination except during a gail-like last fri. night. checkout the artists on their website and maybe Email a plea for a lower fee than $70/ .

The Record Journal has always been better at promoting local events after they happen rather than before. I wish they would focus their attention prior to the event. I don't mind a review after it happens, but it would be helpful if they were more focused on what events we can go to rather than what events we missed.
