I'm on the fence.
I already have an iPod, and a cellular phone.
I have to give credit to Apple's marketing, because I want it and have no need whatsoever for the darn thing.

From what Ive heard so far its just another toy for the techies and at $600.00 bucks a pop and $60.00 to $100.00 bucks a month I think you should just donate $1800.00 to a good charity.(or me).

:) How igh in price they are! So , as a less expensive way to keep up with latest tech , will now that my contract is up for renewal , upgrade to a Bluetooth integrated phone from Sprint , after settling my past-due bill . Doing that will save me money . So, for my fellow techies out there , do the same using your situation with your respective carrier. Thank you .

Did you see my last one ?
I ended up purchasing the Iphone almost immediately after making this thread. In the end the service contract was so much less than what I was paying on my Nextel phone, that the savings actually paid for the phone over the course of the 2-year AT&T contract. My old phone also did not have a quarter of the capabilities of the Iphone, and no data plan - Now I can check email wherever I am, and even surf the web with a full browser as long as I am patience enough to wait for the Edge network to do its thing.
The final selling point for me was the camera. I've never had a camera on my phone before, and it is great to have something to take snapshots with rather than lugging around the cumbersome Canon gear! :D

:p I must be a dinosaur... Or else I don't have a lot of friends. LOL!
 I just want my phone to make PHONE CALLS! I don't need a Queen song for a ringtone... I really don't care what Brittney or Paris are up to... I have ALL the music I need on CD's (ok... I downloaded a lot of stuff from Kazaa... LOL!) The only person I need to talk to is my wife... and I know her work phone number.
:o WOW!
I dated a girl in 1971 whose 17 year old sister was in her SECOND year at MIT.
We would visit her and her boyfriend in the Computer Room at 2AM and bring them food. They were writing code for computers in that room and had to sign up for the time. Everything in that very large room +1000 is now in my cellphone.
I Just Want to make a phone call!
I don't need an iPod... just a Walkman  ... and I only use that when I mow the lawn (which I don't do anymore either... we hired someone cuz I don't have time).
But I do use my computer... Addicted to it actually...
Guess that makes me a PCsaurus....:)

Apple is the sole manufacturer of its Iphone, and there was a recent price drop - $399 for the 8GB now instead of $599, and the less expensive 4 GB model is being phased out. I suspect more versions are on their way by the end of the year, or for early 08.

I love the iPhone, but I am going to wait for a couple of generations of them to pass by before I buy one.

Well , I do not and do not want this overpricd thing anyway . In contrast, my cell does the job nicely.

Well , my old phone certainly did not. It had no convenient camera, no data plan that allowed me to access my work and personal email as well as surf the web during any number of life's boring moments, did not double as a personal digital assistant and MP3/music player, and the service was sub-par at best.
Now I have all these missing things with the sub-par service included, and I save $30 a month over my old carrier. This more than pays for the Iphone during my 2-year AT&T contract, so I could not be happier with the purchase. Add to that an unexpected $100 credit to the Apple store of my choice, and my Iphone choice was an win-win situation!
All I have to do is deal with AT&T, which is admittedly horrible, but then again nothing is perfect. http://www.ziplink.net/~ctroiane/pics/smiles/rofl.gif
And did I mention that I loved the camera on this thing? It's so nice not to be caught out of sorts because I do not have my Canon gear on me for a random snapshot:

:D LOL! What next? Pictures of Brittney & Paris?
Nice car tho'...
Maybe you should make a site for Cell Phone Pics. People could send in pictures from their cells.
FWIW... My phone just makes Phone Calls... tho' I do have a digital camera.

:D
I am far too old to take any interest in the worthless trappings of spoiled children. However, what could be next is a picture of me taking a critical work call at home, or while out and about on a weekend, and logging into whichever admin panel is necessary to fix an emergency problem - all without ever leaving the seat in which I sit. Of course that would require another Iphone to actually take the picture, but given how popular the Iphone has proven in such a short time on the market, I doubt I would have trouble finding one.
Nice car tho'...
Absolutely. It was in amazing shape, and the paint was all original. It might still be sitting on the showroom floor of Robert's Chrysler/Dodge, if you are interested in seeing it in person. :D

My phone used to "just make phone calls." Now it has not only made my life as a whole easier, and more in touch with necessary facets that require constant monitoring, but it's already begun paying for itself in the substantial monthly savings I now enjoy. It's almost too nice. http://www.ziplink.net/~ctroiane/pics/smiles/noes.gif

Could you explain the savings again? Would the average person who has a cell, internet and digital camera know how to use this? Interesting and thanks for sharing. Oh yeah, can you download those pictures to your computer like I do Kodak Easyshare? Thanks!

No problem! My old plan was $30 a month more expensive than my current AT&T bill, and I only had the capability to make and receive calls.
The graphic touchscreen of the Iphone makes it very easy to navigate its various functions, and the camera interface is simple enough for a child to operate - My 10 year-old niece was able to pick up the phone and immediately begin using it - There is only one button on the face of the unit, and it either wakes the phone from its sleep mode, or returns the user to the main menu once the phone is active. Everything is accessed via touchscreen icons, and this really facilitates the phone's functional navigation - Just tap the icon to select the camera, web browser, email client, etc, and away you go.

When connected by USB cable to your computer, the Iphone comes up as a drive in My Computer and the pictures are easily accessible. They can then be copied and opened in whichever photo processing application you like!
