MASA standings

When I first learned that MASA was going to have its own page on this site I got very excited since I figured it would mean we would get more information in a more timely fashion; it unfortunately hasn't been the case. Is there any reason why the standings can't be updated on a weekly basis? I don't know if its MASA just not getting the information to the RJ or if its the RJ just not posting it when they get it, or some combination of the two. The season has past its midpoint and everyone in contention wants to know where they stand. How can we get the standings updated quicker? The current standings are nearly 4 weeks old.

Good Question... Here's the Long Answer

MASA was contacted by me (a fellow MASA PLAYER) to open the door to placing their information on our new community site. I and many others saw only positives that can come from an online source to provide information to MASA at any given time.

It took a few emails and some discussions but things started to roll along smoothly. MASA provide MYRJ.com with a schedule, illegal bat list, a list of all teams and division so you could see who you were playing. Great stuff an avid MASA palyer would want to use! A few weeks into the season we received our first official standings from the league. Right before that we added a place for players to post game photos, reviews, topics (such as this one) to our page.

I then was able to get some info up for our Wallingford softball league. Not as much, but still some for an online source. Remember WLFD does not allow town use of the internet!

SO.... Here it is....We can only post information whenwe have it. As soon as we get it, we post it. THere are only a couple of people here who handle this and we do it as a side bit to our daily jobs. We do it because of the need for information and we participate in the leagues. I wish we could update the info daily but it is simple not sent that often..... and here is why....

The people who provide you and us with all that MASA info (schedules, standings, rain-outs) do it voluntarily from what I am told. THey also do this after their day jobs. So if they don't spin us off info on a daily basis, we understand. THe best we can do is post and print info as soon as we get it. I assure you we do. If there are requests to post game cancellation or such we do it before we leave. There is effort on both ends here.

Our paper does not make a profit on this info. We do this as a service to the players. I am a player and I thought it would be a hit with the palyers. To be honest that page has been one of our biggest consistently hit pages on MYRJ.com.

As a player and the one who handles the online aspect of it you have my word that we will continue to do our best and work with the league to provide good content.

Thanks for the reply and information. Today's paper had updated standings, so hopefully the good folks at MASA will be able to get updates to you folks on a consistent basis as the season continues its second half.
