There is one, but it is usually empty. It is where Taco Bell/KFC was. If Taco Bell/KFC did not survive, then I don't know how Arbys does. Cheshire is weird that way. I never heard of a Taco Bell or KFC failing anywhere.

So KenTacoHut is no longer there? Arby's down the street in Southington doesn't seem to ever have very many people in it too.

KFC failed at The Meriden Square Mall. It was shared space with Arthur Treacher's and Nathan's Famous. In fact that spot in the food court is still vacant.

The only Arby's I know of is in Southington on 66 at the intersection of Cheshire Road. I'm not a fan of Arby's or fast food in general, but if one wants their product the Southington location is close by. We don't need anymore fast food places anywhere in the area much less in Meriden. RTE 10 in Cheshire has so much traffic they certainly could do well not to make it worse. Having said that I have heard good things about Sonic's in other parts of the country so I may try that when it opens in Wallingford.

You are going so far back it's ridiculous. The food court is almost entirely changed with many choices at the 'Square'. Also I may be wrong but I believe there is only one available spot left.

Having had children, for us "eating out" meant unwrapping our dinner for the better part of 2 decades. Now, as senior cistizens who can no longer afford sit-down meals in a restaurant, "eating out" once again entails unwrapping our food in many cases. With respect to fast food franchises, Arby's isn't actually that bad, offering a varied menu of roast beef instead of fried burgers and chicken and a nice selection of soft drinks with more options than usual for diabetics. The best selection and options, IMHO, seem to be at Duchess, which provides a nice blend of restaurant-type meals with fast food style convenience and prices; the dinner selections even come with veggies and salads, and one can get sides like cottage cheese and cole slaw as well as a nice selection of soups. With that said, I will be interested in how Sonic pans out; I have heard favorable things about their food, but am not sure how I feel about eating in my car...

I was there 3 weeks ago. There are 3 vacancies in the food court. - Subway, The KFC/Nathan's/Arthur Treachers spot (they closed 4 years ago I think), and the spot where Everything's Cafe was.

Subway closed briefly for a re-model and has since reopened. There are only 2 vacancies in the food court. Having said that there are quite a few food stores in the old Square. Ruby Tuesday's for one has lasted quite a long time because they give the public what they want. Can't say the same about fast foods like KFC etc.

Yeah. I saw that Subway reopened at the mall when I was there on Saturday. I've only went to Ruby Tuesday's once. It was okay. The one in Waterbury at The Brass Mill Mall closed for good a few months ago. And there are rumors the one on Queen Street in Southington is closing when their lease is up.

Not a big surprise. Most companies seem to have a 'life' cycle some longer than others.

Why is it we continually hear how bad the economy is, over and over. But every franchise restaurant on route 5 is overly busy everyday of the week.

Dont get it. Maybe its not that bad, figure 6 percent or 9 percent unemployment. 91 out of a 100 working or 94 out of a 100 working, not that big of a difference.

My wife and I grabbed a quick bite at the Cheshire Arby's Sunday. I will simply say that it has gone downhill, most notably the service. We both agree that the Southington Arby's is still the best in the area.

I would also note as a sidebar that Arby's is the most diabetic-friendly fast food chain around, offering a greater selection of sugar-free soft drinks than any of the others.

Is that so? Where should I forward my property tax??

Not sure about any other RBs, but the one in Southington has the best service of any restaurant in the area, fast food or not. It makes me smile to pull up to the drive through and hear courteous staff instead of "whucha want?"... I guess Taco Bell got the message because now they will ask me how my day was before they take my monies :D

You have a point about property taxes and I should have said the East Side has every kind of fast food. I believe the only fast food on West Main St is McDonald's. I don't consider Subway a fast food unless I count the one in Middletown that has a drive through.

Meh its an open market.... supply demand kinnda thing. No one is forced to go to McDs or BK just because they opened a block away from their house. Education people, education.... and some moderation would be nice too.

There was a coupon special that came in the mail for Arbys this week. Thought I would mention it since so many seem to really like the food.

I got quite a few free sandwiches at Arbys when they were demoing that Roastburger thing. You'd get one free with a purchase of a drink, then i'd get a coupon for a free sandwich and come back and get the buy a drink-free sandwich thing again and get another free with survey. I had 4 dollar meals for 2 at Arby's for weeks that way =)

don't know if that still works.
