I for one am happy that the owners of Shoprite of Meriden (soon to be Shoprite of Wallingford) are opening a new store in the old Shaw's. Maybe now that plaza won't become a ghost town. What does everyone else think?

I think it's great that Shoprite is moving into that plaza too. It's been empty far too long - last winter it appeared that the roof was caving in from the snow...

I wish, tho, that it was going to be a Whole Foods or a Trader Joe's, but hopefully other businesses will follow & fill up that plaza again.

My hubby patronizes the Chinese restaurant there (they are one of the best ones around!), and the owner there has been anxiously waiting for someone else to go next door - his business has been way off since Shaw's closed. I'm glad he stuck it out & hopefully his business will do better also.

Now if we coild just get Bernie's back....it was a shame when they went under.

While I don't know who it was, someone was looking at The Bernie's spot a few weeks ago. Shoprite was holding some orientation classes in there and they came while the classes were going on.

Shoprite by the way opens this Wednesday November 17th at 8AM!!!!

Also in the same plaza a Mexican Restaurant called Moe's Southwestern Grill is supposed to be opening in February. It's gonna be next to Casual Curtain in the old Strawberries store front - where they had Kristen's Closet back in the spring. I don't know anything about Moe's except they have locations in Blue Back Square in West Hartford and I think Somerset Square in Glastonbury.

Moe's is a decent 'quick' food like place - much better than other fast food places and the one in VT has beer.

That sounds great re Moe's - we've got a nice selection of restaurants now in Southington, from Japanese to Indian, and of course, our 2 Mexican restaurants already that are both very good.

Altho I'm a Stop & Shop customer for many years, I may be heading to the new ShopRite for Thanksgiving groceries. S&S is getting very dirty-looking. I don't know when was the last time they vacuumed the entrance area, and everything seems grimey.

In this weeks Shoprite flier and next weeks as well there is a coupon to get a 21 pound turkey for free when you spend $75.

Anyway as an employee let me give you some advice. Since opening day it's been extremely busy. Go earlier in the morning (we open at 7AM) or later in the evening (after 9PM. We're open til 11PM). One more thing unlike the big chains The Drust's (the owner of Shoprite) are giving their employees Thanksgiving Day off.
