Hello...

Wanna do some thing special with Hubbard Park ?

On Memorial Day put out luminaries ( candles ) throughout the
park... encircle the entire lake ?

One Candle for every American Death in Iraq.

Let people drive through and SEE what a few Thousand lights
are... like the Relay for Life luminaries.

Then next year do it again... another thousand or so.

I'll even donate $100.00 towards the candles and help light them.

This is a good idea! I wonder if the City would consider this, or perhaps getting the Service Clubs (the Lions come to mind, they have a lot of vets, but how about the others:o

that is a great idea - it couldn't possibly cost much. instead of Hubbbard Park though, i'd rather see this at the Broad street monuments. What better way to honor our soldiers than at these memorials?

We might offend someone because all the candles are white.

We could use a different color candle for each race ..

like dark purple for black (unless they make black candles?)

tan for latino

green for Irish

yellow for French

etc

Disclaimer: Rev Al, this is an attempt at humor where the joke is on the French guy.

All joking aside it is a fantastic idea but around the monuments would probably work better. Anyone know the Neighbour Association for that area?

Great idea, but let's not divert the intent of the idea into a discussion on the color of the candles. This is a way to honor the dead, and trying to make any sort of joke out of their sacrifice is inappropriate.

Eastside,

It was just a little levity, not a joke about their sacrifice, lighten up. You do realize however, that although this is a wonderful idea by some sincerely well meaning people, someone or some group in Meriden WILL complain about it.

Hello...

Too bad it couldn't be done though. Hubbard Park would be the perfect
spot for a drive through... imagine the lake outlined with 3,438 luminaries
which IS possible when you consider that on December 2nd in Antietam /
Sharpsburg Maryland they actually put out 23,000 on the date of that
battle. 23,000 was determined as the total killed, wounded and missing
on that ONE DAY. Let's all hope we don't surpass those numbers.

The only people that I can see upset would be the supporters of Bush / Cheney war.
