What do you think about the demise of the Hub? (See the Record-Journal story in Local News.) (http://www.myrecordjournal.com/site/tab1.cfm?newsid=18341260&BRD=2755&PAG=461&dept_id=592709&rfi=6" target="_blank") What are the prospects of reviving economic development downtown?

Hello...
Prospects of downtown development... lol
Create another park for the ******s and Crack Dealers is the " Vision "
of our town leaders. Even Petrucelli see's this.. and he's a nut.
Last time I drove downtown I was struck by the number of squad cars
responding to a dispute in a parking lot.
If you build it they will come.... but just who are" they "
Ah............ remember Downtown in the 50's and 60's....lol
Jeff
PS... you edit the word ****** ? How about the General Joseph ****** ?
yup... him too ?

Ahh.... The Hub;The now bad place.Going back to the begininng , I remember when it first opened with such stores as Anderson Little , Stop & Shop , Cinemas 1 & 2 . More about the Cines , it is where I saw Grease seven times back in 1978 as a sophmore in Platt High . Now comes the bad . As the bad set in , it brought with it OTB(Off Track Betting)a place for loosers . Talkin about the whole mall itself , the yelow wall outside of the China Yum was the "message center" for loosers . It included the Armed forces recruiters offices . Then in the 80's it became the Hub . My attitude ; it is a dump. well , back to stores of the time here were such ones as The Workout a gym , and the Hub Laundrymat. So much for the 80's . In the last decade , the 90's there were few if any stores Now to my pleasure in the new Millenium , it is gone forever until the end of time .
I think this message proves what the whole problem is with the Papandrea saga. I saw your response there and I'm not sure, that given the views expressed above, you are doing Papandrea any favors by defending him. You may be helping him further down.

I hope,at least, that the FLOOD designated river brings down our insurance premiums- who would ever pave a river!!!! A:p s a green space with some little shops/cafe's and transportation center, it might look as good as 125 yrs ago! ps: I hope that the Elephants can come back to greener pastures, kids & god's country

i grew up in meriden and in the 60's our downtown was a fun and safe. Can it ever be revived again? to some degree, but never back to its hey-day that is was. the malls have taken the old fashined style of retail away for good.
I've said this before, and will again, move the broad street monuments down to where the hub was. open up harbor brook and you could have the beginning of a historical landmark that may even attract a tourist industry.

I was hoping that they would put a open space park down there where they could hold some concerts in the summer like Hubard Park. I just hope they don't let it get overun with posion ivy like Brookside Park.
I do believe that the area should be monitored by the police to keep the park family friendly.

Considering that Harbor Brook is polluted by past manufacturing. When they do uncover the brook, I don't want to be around to smell it.
I think this is a little detail everyone has forgotten, or were not aware of.
As far as a nice place in downtown....aint no such place anymore.
