I did like the movie, although I found it a little sad. Peggy (played by Molly Shannon) lives a somewhat monotonous "routine" life consisting of her job, brother/his family, co-workers and her beloved dog Pencil. She seems to be basically fulfilled mostly because of Pencil's love.
She is always doing nice things for the people in her life despite the fact that they don't often reciprocate. Everyone seems to take her kindness and willingness to "lend and ear" for granted and assumes she "has no life" because she is a single person who dotes on her dog.
After Pencil passes away most of the people in her life seem to downplay the tragedy of his death and aren't really there for her the way she's always been for them. Peggy realizes how lonely she is and tries to fulfill her life. She goes a little overboard but in the end learns who she is and what truly makes her happy. She finally starts living for herself and not others. I recommend seeing the movie, but it's a better rental than a night out at the theater.
