One topic that is under very serious consideration by the MASA board is the use of wood bats next year (2008) for MASA.

If they were to go to wood bats -- that is all wood bats -- no metal allowed, then the homerun limit would be removed and the ball being used would be upgraded to a livlier core.

What are players thoughts on this?

Why would MASA even think about an all wood bat league? Things are fine as is. Double wall bats lasted only a few years in MASA, and now you want to replace all metal bats with wood bats? You are attempting to turn MASA into a damned sissy league for crying-out-loud. I'm sure this is being considered only on account of the safety factors involved. If MASA ever did decide to switch to all wood bats, I'm almost positive you'd see a dramatic decrease in the amount of teams at registration, probably 10-15%.

2 quick things...

Sign me up for the wood bats! That would bring back defensive play and old school hitting to the ball games. I am totally going to go out and by a customized composite wood stick. Maybe with a giant lightning bolt on the head of the bat.

The other thing...

MASA asked that the Record-Journal make players aware of dropping off the game sheets everynight. These must be dropped off by the winning team. MASA will forfeit the game that was played if it not dropped off. Not handing in the sheets also prevents the league from updating standings in a timely fashion.

I for one would love to have wooden bats. It would bring defense into play a lot more and you wouldn't have ever other guy with a White Steel come up and ping one out. Anyone that can swing a bat can basically hit it out of these parks with no problem especially with some of the single wall bats that are allowed. I think they should either go to wooden bats, or if they are going to be building a new Columbus Park make the outfield another 40 or 50 feet back and raise the fence to 20 feet. I think it would make the games more interesting and a little more competitive.

I would vote in favor of wood bats as long as it didn't dramatically reduce the # of teams.. if masa is seriously considering this, why isn't there a questionarre concerning this topic? a simple form from each team saying wether they are for or against.. and if its changed will their team return the next year.. its not that hard.. also.. as far as i know, Wooden bats are much less expensive then their alloy counterparts, even at the top end your looking at over $200 for metal bats whereas wood bats range from $30-$80 and even though they run the risk of breaking.. metal bats barely last a whole season before they lose their PoP anyways! I vote for Wood next year

A mailing will indeed go out to all teams about wood bats. The count will be tabulated on whether MASA proceeds with wood bats or not. Hopefully all teams will respond with an answer of either yes or no. It would be refreshing to get responses from the teams in lieu of the usual apathy displayed on issues, then the complaining that follows.
