As a lifelong Wallingford resident I love this town. I moved to Meriden briefly and it sucked. Taxes, groceries, utilities, etc were all higher so I moved back.
I have been noticing more and more lately there are ALOT of empty storefronts and buildings. Is this a sign of the times? It was great when Super Walmart, Home Depot, BJs and Lowes came to town as we rely on them to keep our taxes from rising. I noticed lately alot of smaller businesses are closing though which isnt good. Its leaving property open to neglect, blight, and vandalism. It also hurts the image for surrounding businesses like when Mugs/Blimpie went out. Now its an empty crappy storefront. The old Merriams property is deteriorating rapidly. The town just seems to be going downhill. I realize the economy isnt great but this is depressing to see this many storefronts empty.
