 Did you ever wonder about the training or competency that a person possesses; especially one who is providing health services. Recent legislative changes have made it possible for some to obtain licenses to provide health services without first having p***ed a traditional clinical competency exam. It appears that some of the state's regulators are remiss in acting out the public mandate to preserve and protect the health interests of the public. For shame!

We need to end government licensing of health care professionals. We need to move that to private industry. We already have that in the form of things like the Good Housekeeping seal of approval, Consumer Reports, and Consumer Digest.

We need to make it so that more people like nurses, EMTs, Paramedics, military medics, and other people who may not have the full training and licensure of doctors, yet posses basic skills to provide basic healthcare. That would increase the supply of healthcare and reduce the cost. Right now, only licensed physicians can perform certain procedures that are really simple enough for any RN or Paramedic to perform. That limits the supply of healthcare.

The government is trying to increase the supply of healthcare by reducing what is required to do in order to become a healthcare professional.

I personally do not give a damn about someones paper hanging on the wall or what government agency says their OK to practice medicine. I care about results and I care about what other patients have to say. Word of mouth recommendations are key in my book.

I think those who were traditionally licensed should reamin so and it will be interesting to see what specific examples the original poster can provide us. I do know that LPNs are not longer allowed to run flu shot clinics on their own; they have to have an RN present thanks to legislative changes made last year. Which I think is totally stupid. But that seems to be a tightening of standards as opposed to what was posted.
