This has been something thats been on my mind for some time, and wanted to see if anyone else has encountered this with the hospital.

a few years ago when the hospital just opened, I became extremely sick, in and out of the hospital and they didnt seem to really care. I finally went to hartford hospital with pancreatitis, and was told if I went one more day with the orders of "drink soda and eat some crackers" I could have died.

now recently my father fell and hurt his shoulder. all they told him was rest and took him out of work for the weekend. his shoulder was still bothering him on monday when he had to go to work so he made an appointment with his doctor and found out he had tore his rotator cup and needs surgery. hes been out of work since.. almost a month!

There was also a time when I fell on a rusty metal post and cut my foot open. they put me on a gurney in a hallway where i was for over 6 hours. I fell a sleep and when no one would see me, I left and just went to the mediquick, got my stiches and was out of there in no time.

It really seems to me they arent on the ball with their care. they either push you out the building, or keep you there for hours on end waiting in a hallway until you actually say something and they jump on it.

My expeirences with the hospital are mixed.

At the surgi-center I find them very good - of course you in and out - so as a patient you don't require alot.

I agree with the emergency room - you get better and quicker care at the walk-ins. They seem very blaise about things in the emergency room.

In hospital is awful - the nursing care is completely hands off - I don't know why - is it because they can monitor you from a computer, so they don't actually have to come in see you?...is it because they work 12 hr shifts 3on 4 off so they never really get to know who their patients are..it's like a patient no longer has a face...you're just stats on a page or PC screen.

Alot of nurses are being replaced by aides and quasi-nurses (for lack of a better term), and are not allowed to lift a patient or do much any kind of physical contact, should the patient fall and the hospital get sued. I've had the lovely expierence of trying to get the toilet myself doped up tied, to a IV with the aid just standing there not even offering a hand to get me to the toilet....and the same kinda thing comming out of the recovery room to my bed - I had to get myself in the bed - the aides or whatever they are would NOT LIFT ME TO MY BED!!...and I'm not heavy:confused:

yea medical care sucks.
