With the coming of fair weather the birds are chirping and a young mans fancy turns to thoughts of mindlessly riding his unmufflered bike down the road.
I can remember when you would be pulled over for a noisey vehicle, but it now seems to be the norm.
The roar of your harley may be music to your ears, but its a pain in the rear to the rest of us.
If we want to improve the quality of life in Meriden, our PD must crack down on noise polution.
I read somewere that All PD,s have decible meters available.
Could we please start using them?
Just come up to east main st. and listen to the roar as the bikes and unmuffled cars go bye.
They drown out the TV,Stereo or anything else you may be trying to listen to or concentrate on.

And what about the incredibly loud music you can hear coming down the road half a mile away? More than once I've been near a car with the stereo pumping full blast, unable to hear anything in my own car (even with the windows rolled up) because of the loud booming bass in a nearby vehicle. You just know those drivers will be using hearing aids in the not too distant future. What is truly criminal is when they subject their small children to such high volume. They are inflicting permanent damage to their children's hearing as well as their own when they do that.

I agree that those booming car radios are a BIG problem. I called our PD, and they don't have any meters. Maybe someone should buy some??

I was talking to my kids the other day about when I was a kid. I grew up in Wallingford on South Elm Street. I told them there were two distinct sounds that I always remembered hearing growing up.
1. The train horn. Seems no matter where you are in town, you can hear the train.

2. Harley motorcycles. Even when I was a kid they were a problem as far as being too noisy. Like the train, you can hear them pretty much anywhere in town.

Now we have cars with attachments to the tail pipes, which intentionally make them loud. We have wayyyy too much bass on the radios of the young kids today. They'll without a doubt need hearing assistance before 35. And lets not forget about the rice rocket motorcyles that make the loud whining sound when they throttle up.
We have always had a problem with noise. I think it's worse now than ever, but it's always been a problem. With lawsuits being the way they are today, and the heavy paperwork load the police now face, don't count on anything being done about the noise anytime soon.
