Does the mayor and city council approve of appointing an individual to a major land use commission when that individual has been, or is a plaintiff in a lawsuit against the City of Meriden?

the ribbojn cutter mayor is in over his head. Rotella was at least half right by saying he won't be around after the election- maybe alive, but hopefully not mayor either

How does one get appointed to the Planning Commission in Meriden if you have sued the city over a land use issue? Apparently, that doesn't bother anybody?

todays editorial page makes it clear that some clarification on Gulino's ridge protection stance is desperately needed before he is approved. Hope that his business partner will recuse himself on that vote....

Good point that his business partner should recuse himself from voting on his confirmation. If Rohde was smart he'd drop this guy like a stone--or a trap-rock.

Lets hear the spin doctors, play the grey areas game, the technicalities game.
Meriden is like the Bush administration.
The true middle class are the unaffiliatated and Republicans. Just look who siddles up to the Democrat world.

If sometime in the future, the Ridgetop Protection Zoning gets overturned by a lawsuit that originally involved Ross Gulino as "a part-owner of a company which is a plaintiff," and he is serving on the Meriden Planning Commission, what then? Does he get to write new rules? Does he abstain? What?
In fact, as a member of the Plan of Conservation and Development Steering Committee, did Gulino abstain from any discussion about trap-rock ridges seeing that he was involved in the lawsuit to overturn zoning that protected the most sensitive and scenic areas of the ridges? What about discussion of the city-owned land on Cathole Mountain which includes the areas mentioned above? Did he abstain from discussing the fate of those areas? If not, why not?

He will be an annoyance on everything. Shortchanging the city by making everything easier for developers unless its a competitor then he will screw em.
Doesn't Ceneviva represent him on applications, so how could he vote on anything ceniviva presents. Cant vote on something your lawyer brings.

If accurate, that is a good point. Could the R-J verify?

Don't belive everyting you read MeridenBorn.
Guilino like many other residents has used Ceneviva in the past. However, Ceneviva is not on a retainer.
The way I understand it
If you owe any money to the city, you can't serve
If you sue the city (although the city might be totally at fault), you can't serve
If you've been arrested, you cant' serve
Now if you've ever used an attorney who represents individuals applying for a variance, you can't serve.
Can't wait to hear what's next.

He could serve, but not on the planning board. His father is brg, like he is not going to do what is his best interest, be real. He is a bad fit for that board,
the city does not need the potential problems for a politi-pay.
Acutally, it will be more fun to write stuff when he's on and during the elections.

Gulino served on the Plan of Conservation and Development Steering Committee. How much input did he have on the fate of the city-owned NRG land on Cathole Mountain? Should he have been allowed to take part in decisions that effect the Hanging Hills of Meriden if he was involved in a lawsuit to overturn theTrap-rock Ridgeline Protection Zoning?

Maybe it'll be like the DeZinno era...that was alot of fun to write about.

Why would they do that now, hasn't this been going on forever. Wouldn't that be to take care of their buddy. It has turned into a half-ass operation up there, bring back the hair gel man.
Maybe it will be in the paper tomorrow, sounds screwy.

Pretty good sources are saying it's true about the questionairre. Should hit the paper soon I'm told.
I heard it is worded very carefully to increase the odds in one guys favor.

Oh its true. However the trick is to ask questions without taking a residents right to sue away from them. BRG is no longer in business, so this is all about nothing. I heard one commission member owed lots in taxes! Oh, that's right we won't mention that because he's not a democrat.;)

I would disagree that this is about nothing. Someone that would sue the city to overturn zoning that protects Meriden's Hanging Hills should not be entrusted with a powerful landuse board position that oversees those same ridges. I've never said he is not a good man, but he is a developer and has sued the city over landuse isues. How about some other board other than landuse commissions?

The R-J should look into the now infamous appointee questionnaire. This is the first time a questionnaire has ever been used and one question appears designed specifically for one individual to make the grade. Looks like the responses have to be in by March 26th, so expect the appointments to be made at the first city council meeting in April.
Questionnnaire seems to be designed by the Dems atty at whose prompting we can only surmise? Methinks this will backfire on them. Gonna' be some blowback on this one!

Mr. Shamock needs to call for a separate vote for any controversial appointments. Accountablity! Otherwise, it will be voted enmasse.

I doubt if he will do that. Shamock used to vote for DeZinno's appointment on a regular basis. He's one of the good ol' boys, too.

Most of the stuff the Republican said was true. Gordan said only 2 people had tax issues. So whats the big last second policy change deal. Someone needs to read the definition of transparacy to Rhode. It reads Truth in Government, simply honesty, its doesnt appear too hard to read through this, maybe I am too skeptical.
Its good to read something from a differing viewpoint, besides the caucus line.
Although, nothing of Guilino was mentioned, maybe he got to him too.
