Here we go again southington's finest planning and zoning are letting someone else try to build another freakin car wash in southington.
Number One: Do we neeeeed another car wash in this town?
Number Two: This car wash is proposed for 973 Queen Street. Do we neeeed anymore traffic on Queen Street?
Number Three: This car wash is going to be next to a residential zone are these people going to want to put up with the noise from the constant dryers and vacuums that are going to be operating?
Number Four: What about the lights from this facility shining into their homes?
I think Queen Street would benefit from more retail stores instead of another car wash, we have six car washes on Queen Street already.
MAYBE WE SHOULD add another car wash and maybe they could sell pizza or mexican food I know we certainly don't have enough of those type of places on Queen Street.
Oh by the way one more question: would anyone sign a petition against this car wash?
Your feedback would be greatly appreciated .

I drive on Rte 10,Queen ST. almost every day and it's amess now trying to get into the right lane. Another carwash is not needed in the Southington,Plainville area.
I would sign a petition.
I live in Meriden and have to drive to Wallingford, Berlin or Southington to find a carwash.
Get the name of the people who want to build on Queen St. and tell them we have prime locations on E.Main St. here in Meriden.;) ;)

Isn't it stupid? We really have to get rid of the entire PZC and start all over again with people who know what they're doing. In the last election, I specifically voted for PZC candidates who claimed to have the best interests of Southington in mind, and who are from the town originally (I figured that they might be more apt to want to keep the town looking like it used to more than an "outsider"), even tho I'm a transplant from MA 20 yrs ago myself!
It's very frustrating, and very very sad. I fell in love with Southington as soon as my husband & I got off exit 31 for the first time, and I saw the lovely Southington Mtn on the horizon...development is a good thing, but not ALL development is a good thing!
PS Sure, I'd sign a petition.

The PZC has not approved of this carwash yet. Give them a chance to reveiw the information they received over the 3 hours of public hearings they held on this issue. There are some good members on that board that are trying to do what is best for the town so before you say they all should go lets see what they do and look at their record to see what they have done.

You're being very fair! I must say, tho, that we have been looking at their record, and the past ten years of rampant building is evidence of that. I think that what's good for the town in their eyes is more $$$$.
The town of Southington looks like a mess now, and it's their fault.

I agree that there has been WAY too much development going on and in the end the PZC is the land use board. They decide if the projects go or dont go. For the car wash lets wait and see. For other controversial issues there have been split votes among the members and it sure looks to me like some members are trying to get some reasonable thinking going on. Others just keep voting yes and that is just wrong. Yes to everthing is wrong. One member said it best - start using your mind and your judgement and do what is best for the town that is what we elected you for, Some are doing that and we should not say they are all bums and kick them all out.

I agree southington is growing in leaps and bounds but what we need is southington to grow in the right direction. I do not think that another car wash on queen street is going to do any good for the town. Lets start doing things that will benefit this town.
We have enough buildings in this town that are empty lets quit giving businesses these big tax breaks to start up and watch them stay in town just long enough for the tax break to come to an end and watch these places pull out and be left with another empty building.
I hope the pzc does the right thing and votes this down I have talked with many people and they have said the only advantage of another car wash would be to help keep the prices of car washes down but we had the same thing with cable tv now they have all brought there prices up at the same time and we are paying more now then we ever have.
Yes I agree lets trust the pzc but lets also trust the people in this town and start listening to the taxpayers we are not always wrong either.:D

Yes one for the little guy its about time. I agree with you southingtonresident from what I saw at that meeting some of the council members do think in the best interest of the people and some are still voting yes and are not using there minds in there judgements.
My hats off to the pzc members who took the concearns of the neighbourhood residents to heart and to the ones who took into consideration the concearns of the police chief. If his opinion dosen't count then I think we need to replace those pzc members that thought a car wash business was more important than the opinion of the police chief about icing issues 100ft before a stop light.
As far as what is going to be built there next even if it does not require a special use permit I hope that the seller of this property keeps in mind that these people are not trying to keep out all business but are hopeing that whatever goes there will be in harmony with the neighbourhood.
A small plaza,A bakery which this town does not have anymore, office buildings stuff like this would fit better here than a facility that houses two rows of cars stacked 11 cars deep with three to four cars waiting to go into this building idelling, all playing different radio stations with people inside the cars talking all within 40ft of the residential property line with car emmisions and only a buffer of a 6ft stockade fence with 5ft shrub trees as a noise barrier.
I am sorry if I seem a little long winded on this subject but I am one of those people along that property and finding this forum gave me a place to vent. Again thanks to all the people who signed the petition and to all the people who helped in the stopping of this car wash and also the pzc members who are looking into the best interest of the residents of the town of southington.
