View Full Version : The new Lowes off West Street-is it just ME??

I live off of West Street, and every day I take I-84 to get to work in Berlin. West Street was reconfigured for the Target-Lowes shopping plaza, and for the life of me I cannot figure out why the new entrance onto I-84 is at such a sharp angle! Previously, it was a gradual sloping entrance ramp; now it's a sharp turn that winds down to the highway. Now we have using the same ramp the oncoming traffic, which evidently has a green arrow - surprised ME the other day when I inadvertently cut a driver off who was dutifully taking his left turn with the arrow...isn't there usually a sign on the opposite side stating "oncoming traffic has green arrow" or am I dreaming that up in my head??

How about that double lane heading south on West Street that converges into the previous single lane by the Dunkin Donuts? I can't tell you how many drivers I've seen since that was done that have gone onto the curb where the road used to be!! Great fun trying to "merge" with the 2 lanes into one skinny lane very quickly right after the traffic light. They should sell tickets, as every night it's like running the gauntlet, and always something to see.

Guess I should have been going to the PZC meetings and looking at the maps & drawings I'm sure were on display when this was all being worked on...

Guess I'm just an old crankypants!

Why does Southington need a Lowes, when there are two Home Depots in Southington and a Lowes just up two exits in Plainville. I don't think what the town of Southington is doing is very practical.

Similar to Meriden. The Wallingford lowes is 5 miles away and from most points of Meriden, the Wallingnerd one is closer.
There is a finite amount of money spent on Home Improvement, its not
like just because you build more, people will spend more. Just spreading the overhead around. Anyways the one in Meriden is dead and will be closing eventually.

a go-cart track is what wallyworld puts in every time a big box store closes. So... eastsiders- rev up your engines. What will happen to valencia when Lowes goes out? and how about that proposed danby's plaza on the corner?? cannot imagine Outback coming in now.....

Now I know why there are so many ugly, overweight people at Wal-Mart. Fast food makes you fat and ugly.

Shopping at Wal-mart in Wallingford is like walking into some kind of Fellini nightmare.

The town wants whatever is good for its tax base. Period.

Irregardless of whatever commercial sprawl that comes down the pike, Southington will grab it. They only care about their tax base. Period.

How nice to be a conservative, Stepford community. Yikes!!

Oh and putting certain businesses out of business is good for the people who work in those places. When the population can't support all these stores there will be empty buildings and the town of Southington will ask their elected officials, "What were you guys thinking?" And bringing all these stores and building all these new homes really hasn't lowered taxes in Southington, so obviously there must be something in it for some of these officials. Sounds to me that there are lots of secret rendezvous going on with town officials and developers.

Now, now, you pick on the fat, the old, the dumb. Collectively, you must be
hot, thin, young and brilliant. Nice.

You, Vixen, you. Fortunately I am a humble TDH hunk.

Back to biz, I have been slacking in my movie watching, but it is nice to see the R-J putting your reviews in their MyR-J section. They are worthy of print.
