Hello...

As a Wallingford employee ...life is good !

Just starting a 2 week furlough.... the layoffs next month will give
me more options as where to park, if they fire a few more managers
(engineers ) then most of our product lines will come to a halt and
perhaps MORE furloughs!!!!!

The Company vision has come down to " do what you can with less "

FIRE the compentant... the dedicated... the one most benificial to
the operators that "depend" on him most.

Move our products to other plants

Send production lines to China

Drop the " First we will be first " Company line for " who cares ...just as
long as our stockholders are happy "

Just save some " obama " jobs for us when they mamage to shut us down

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - :-)

Yes... things are ...cool in Wallingford.

the corporate culture is such that people don;t count for anything anymore, this country need to get back to a little protectision..keep what few jobs are left here and start to make the policies necessary to bring back some of the job lost.....

I don't think that those jobs will ever be back. It's sad to say but unfortunately true.

Glad to see you are optimistic, but the people in power will never allow those jobs back into this country. They go to other countries and pay people considerably less to do the same job. The corporations are anti-American when they employ people in other countries and stimulate the foreign economies instead of our own.

IHOP, talk about generic crappy food. The one down the road went out of bussiness this will do the same.
To survive they need to sell that dinner cafeteria food and it wont happen.

between meriden and wallingford and cheshire.......over 120,000 people, if everyone visits once they will do quite well, i bet 70 percent will be repeat visitors.....

The IHOP in Hamden does moderate business and the one in West Hartford closed, so I am not as sure as you are about how well it will do.

Ihop seems to have a pretty loyal following. I think they'll do great for the first couple of months anyway. The Hamden site usually does a pretty good business on the weekends. People wait 1/2 hr to get a table there but the new restaurant may have more competition in the immediate area.
Any thoughts on what might be done with the Yankee Silversmith site? How about a Cracker Barrel or a CVS? New McDonald's? The anticipation is killing me.

why all the love for mediocre chain restaurants pulling stuff from the freezer and dropping it in grease?

iwantwallingfordbetter

what we need is for the silversmith site to be set up a little different, put all the businesses with drive throughs together, but have the drive through windows all on the same side of the building, (liberty bank, dunkin donuts, mcdonalds, rite aid, white way laundry, stop and shop, etc) this way you would not have to leave the car, just keep pulling up to the next window...

Rt. 5 has enough. In this economy it is ridiculous for any town to allow any more of these crummy chain restaurants. Never eat in chain restaurants.

How about open-pit mining there? Oh...that's right, only Murdin encourages
mining in the guise of site development. What was I thinking?

it's that oakie sensability that seperates wallyworld from the rest of CT. a luddite mayor, nazi cops and fast food.

Even as boring as Cheshire is, it is more pleasant. Rt. 5 is ugly. Depressing to look at.

It is better. Not as many ugly fast food places and dilapidated homes. Some parts of Rt. 5 are pretty spooky. And with all those scary Wal-Mart shoppers you would think that the ghouls escaped from the graveyard. If you want Wallingord better than take a bulldozer to Rt. 5 and start over.

"If crummy chain restaurants were not here in Wallingford, we would be like Cheshire"......What????

To each their own but aside from the acceptance of miserable quality.....the proliferation of these "chain"-wrecks has come at the expense of choices that we once had.

Do we really need??: the Dunkin Do-NOTS of the world(with their diluted caffeinated backwash and microwave sandwiches), Crappelby's(life is just too short to eat that..come on already), Outhouse Steakhouse(we've all got grills and we really don't need the 'Crocodile Dundee' bull****-routine).

What about those favored food-factories named after days of the week.....Terrible Tuesdays, Forgettable Fridays....let's not forget Red Lobster(Ho-Jo's with a crustacean on the sign). Now there's I-HOP(to the restroom), Silly-Chili's(where the opening of frozen-food boxes and microwave "dings" are mood-music), and countless other cafeteria-quality spots we mistake as entirely acceptable these days.

I'm not from either town but is Wallyworld any better off with many of these "chain"-wrecks clogging the landscape? Cheshire is no culinary mecca either but at least they don't have to roost in their own town's ****.

Rt 5 does suck. It gets uglier by the day.

How about a nice Krusty Krab for downtown Wallingford?

Middletown's downtown is worth a trip. Murdin's is worth a skip.

I was reluctant to ask on another thread...but there's no quality restaurants of ANY kind in Meriden? I'll take it from those who have been here longer but that would truly be "CHANGE we need".

what is quality and what is the standard to judge, one thing meriden has are pizza places.....seams that is the only thing in meriden to not go out of business,,, some of them must be quality

Or it is just that many people in Meriden eat too much garbage.

Murdin thrives on garbage. It's fed to Meridenites every day by their leaders.

I did, i had some pancakes and coffee.. it was fine..alot better than those flat boring cow pies mickey dees tries to pass off as pancakes. Seriously, Wallingford is a proud working class town we dont need any fancy-shmancy places to eat.. if you want that they got lots of them in west Hartford.. ill go eat at IHOP or Abbot and Costello's!!!

obviously you have not tried all the pizza joints in town. There are a couple worthy ones- but don't go downtown if pizza is what you want....
Go to New haven for pizza- it's only 20 minutes away.

over the course of time i have tried all the pizza places in wallingford, muriden and cheshire....even some in southington, durham and new haven.....nothing really special about new haven,, salleys, pepes, modern....not really worth the 20 minute drive the hassle with parking...best is order and get it to go....as long as someone else drives and can drop you off and pick you up......pizza around here is all what your taste is....and what day your get the pizza.....i find it strange that from the same place and the same type of pizza how different the tastes can be.....

new haven is over rated.....

I disagree- but thats why we have choice. I'll drive to Modern anyday rather than eat the cardboard in murdin- rendevous OK but inconsistant. Sals barely passable. Charlis the best in town to me- but too far from house for comfort. The newest are the very worst. The ones in downtown are worse than dominos.

The best pizza is make your own. Its inexpensive and incredibly easy. You know the cook and have total creative control. It never tastes like cardboard, the beer is cheaper, you dont have to tip, and its always hot.

I make a great pie- but always get stuck at the kitchen islaned, covered in flour and sweating. Crank 'em out for the people!

besides... cooking is a busmans holiday.........
