View Full Version : Southington is worse than Cheshire?

Southington has more people than Cheshire but it has very little going for it. The Apple Harvest? Oh boy, that's the time we get to see how much weight people have gained since you saw them at the last festival. No one wrote in the Southington column from February to October. What's up with that? Seems like the people of Southington have nothing to say.

Downtown Southington has a lot going on. Go after 10 PM and its party time.
You can go from place to place. Even a short walk to Smokin Chris.
Queen St. has everything from Mexican to Strip Joints. Its unlimited.

don't forget that problem they had with the water years back- it may have affected their ability to communicate. except to call their wives in for overtime, that is....

You got me there. Even though Punkers in the eighties were much different from the ones in the seventies.

so true- I was in London in '78 and it was in full bore then. and in NYC too. but by the 80's the punkest thing was perhaps the clash and then they played Shea Stadium, tsk tsk. The newest punk revival is pretty lame.
all said and done- even the Ramones invested in stocks-had to- not enough record sales and touring was hell when you hate each other and have to ride in the same bus...but their T shirts and other merch still doing well and based right out of New haven. Joey's brother doing his best to keep the legacy alive. my fave xmas punk song? "I wanna be sedated" not about xmas, I know- but the sentiment seems right......think I'll start right now.

Punk music changed alot in the eighties along with the attitude. The band Fugazi were a bunch of guys who preached no drink, no smoke and very little sex(if any at all). Very popular band even though most of the crowd did not agree with their beliefs.

I hated that bands music AND philosophy. Even thought they usually liked to charge little to see them, they could pay me to go. Hate preachers- in churches, public forums or music. That main guy in the band is dead now right? or just washed up-

Ian Mckaye is still alive and still running Discord Records. Liked the music, but wasn't so sure about the philosophy.

OK Modica- we are off topic and may get repremanded by the moderator and that guy who complained. But really, if no one posts about southington, then this section gets wasted

Exactly, People from Southington don't care about their town. It is a very strange community. I used to live there and called it "The Village of the Damned." I don't understand what that person was complaining about. If they want us to stay on topic the other members need to veer it back to the topic with something interesting to say. Complaining about it is babyish.

All I can say is "wow."
You're making yourself sound a bit foolish by these kind of comments. Try not to generalize an entire town because you don't happen to care for it. Aren't there lots of other topics that you can chat about that don't include demeaning something or someone?
Also, if nobody is saying anything interesting to you, perhaps you should try another forum or go do something else.

Complaining to someone you call a "fool" is pretty idiotic. Try not to generalize and call someone a fool when you really don't know me. I really started the post to get others to post about Southington. It was sort of a joke, but during these days of knee jerk reactions, it doesn't surprise me that you took it seriously.

Someone certainly understood my point. Even though I dogged Southington(it was a joke) only one person defended the town. Maybe my post wasn't as ridiculous as Stella's Mpm thought.

I've found that the Town of Southington gov't is very stubborn and illogical at times, especially their so-called Conservation Commission and the Town Manager. Southington was the only town out of 19 communities that refused to sign the 1998 Metacomet Ridge Conservation Compact. The conservation agreement was voluntary, largely symbolic and simply called for doing active conservation planning for the traprock ridges that traverse the center of the state. Southington's "Conservation" Commission just didn't get it and thought it was some insidious plot to confiscate land for open space. They got hammered by numerous editorials in the states' newspapers, but ignored all pleas for common sense. I lost respect for the community after that.
