Writer’s closed mind
Editor:
With regard to the letter to the editor, "New pessimism," R-J, 11/25 (see reprint of Petrosky's letter below), writer Keith Petrosky talks about the so-called "liberal media," claiming they were "in the tank" for President-elect Obama and failed to present fair and balanced news.
Does the writer include Limbaugh, Vicevich, O'Reilly, Coulter, and Hannity in that description? They blasted the airwaves denouncing Senator Obama like there was no tomorrow.
In addition, how can the writer blame Sen. Christopher Dodd and a group of others for the mortgage debacle leading to the economic situation we are in without even once mentioning President Bush's role in the situation?
With their biased views, the right-wing pundits listed above still blame President Clinton for everything that has happened and he has been out of office for 8 years!
When I was young, I was taught by teachers and adults to respect the Office of the President, Senate and Congress. Whether you voted for him or not, we need to give President-elect Barack Obama a chance. As president, he will be coming into office facing rough times and needs our respect and prayers to help pull us out of this mess. He will be our leader and we should respect that as Americans.
I'm afraid there are some people who have already made up their minds about his job performance before he has even taken the oath of office!

New pessimism (R-J, 11/25)
Editor:
I can't say that I can agree much with Connecticut State Senator Tom Gaffey's recent optimism (R-J, 11/12) about the elections. It was about time we broke down racial barriers and elected our first biracial president. It was pleasing to see many people come out and vote.
Unfortunately, what I believe to be the biased liberal media were so "in the tank" for Barack Obama and Democrats running for office that they forgot to present fair and balanced news so people could make informed decisions. Now we've elected the most liberal Senator with no experience to be our next president. We voted for more Democrats to join a Congress that accomplished little in the last two years. This Democratic Congress took six years of robust growth and killed the economy. These Democrats (Dodd, Franks, Schumer) forced the subprime mortgages on the banks, causing our economic meltdown and blocked drilling in Alaska (the last eight years) that would have eased our energy crisis. These are the Democrats who constantly support abortion and the secular left who fought against faith-based initiatives to help those in need. Senator Gaffey talks about bringing together a house divided - like constantly attacking and poking fun of President Bush or Obama's comments about "those people clinging to their guns and their religion" or the T-shirts worn at Obama rallies or Obama's "spread the wealth" class warfare, to name a few. Yep, the secular far left (Hollywood, the ACLU) is ecstatic. I'm all optimistic myself. Let's look forward to higher taxes (on Social Security, capital gains, income, etc.), a weaker military and the appointment of more liberal activist judges ruling from the bench.
