Hats off to whoever put up the new signage (or at least I think it's new) around that big curve on New Hanover Avenue as you go down the hill into South Meriden. That corner has a blind curve that has plagued me and many other drivers for all our driving years.
What a relief to see prominent stop signs at each side of the curve as well as clearly marked signs pointing your attention to it.
In my life I have seen many accidents there and it's great to see the new signage. Now, drivers just need to heed the warnings.

I agree,
That curve was treacherous, the signage definitely has slowed people down and made it safer to drive in that area!
Couple things...I live in South Meriden so I take that road quite frequently, especially heading to Chef's Hat pizza.
I agree with the stop sign coming down the hill, but going up the hill I am not too keen on. When the roads are slick, you loose your momentum. But if it makes people slow down a bit then, on the whole, both signs are fine by me.
My issue with the stop signs is the same issue I have with all the stop signs, especially on Camp and Cutlery. That issue is the fact that not one person I see ever actually STOPS!
A stop sign means just that. A FULL and COMPLETE STOP! Not 99.999% stopped, 100% stopped. Because I follow that rule, and come to a complete stop just like I learned in drivers ed some 20 years ago, I nearly got rear ended twice coming down the hill toward S. Meriden.
I came to a complete stop and the car behind me had to slam its brakes. Which brings me to another issue...25 MPH speed limit means 25 MPH. Not 45. 25 MPH. I drive the speed limit +/- 5 mph depending on weather conditions, visibility. The car behind me was tailgaiting me the whole time because I was driving 28 mph.

I go up that road all the time...that sign confuses me.
A stop sign that suddenly appears in the middle of an incline?

:( Now that I go up and down this hill most days, I have to agree. The idea of putting up the stop signs was good, and is a great help. BUT, that stop sign heading up the hill can be tough, especially in bad weather. Maybe the solution is to replace the STOP sign on the incline with a DANGEROUS CURVE AHEAD sign, or something that causes more awareness.

I would like the nominate the guy, who put the stop sign going up the hill, for next years Village Idiot Award.
The issue is with traffic speeding down the hill.
Our tax dollars hard at work.

Your right John....no stop sign was needed going up the hill. Every crash on that curve that I can rememeber, has been going down the hill.
being that I have a fearly sick sence of humor.....How about a series of signs...the first saying..."DANEGEROUS CURVE"...the second...."SLOW DOWN JERK" and the last...."OH WELL, YOU CAN'T SAY WE DIDN'T WARN YOU". But that last one would probably get totally over looked by all but the police, fire and ambulance crews.:)
