I happened to peruse the last Sunday's Richterism's on line and was a bit surprised to find this gem:
Joe Lieberman must be planning to retire after this, his fourth term in the Senate. Because, if the far left hates him as much as they hate Sarah Palin, he's toast.
And it looks like they do.
It was bad enough last time, when he lost his party's nomination to Ned Lamont and ran as an independent. Much worse, from their point of view, he won - bad enough that this headline appeared in The Daily Kos, a left-wing blog, last May: "Lieberman Should Be Gassed."
Do I have to point out that Sen. Joe is Jewish?
This is the kind of hate that comes from some on the left. People who love to pose as "progressives" but are really Stalinists, in that they will not tolerate any views they consider incorrect; that is, any views but their own. People who are looking less and less like a radical fringe and more and more like the mainstream of the Democratic Party. People who love to sneer about "the Republican attack machine" - and don't even get the irony.
What they think of Sen. Lieberman now, after his speech endorsing John McCain at the Republican convention, is hard to imagine.
Well Glen, I searched the Kos archives and could find no headline referring to Lieberman being gassed. I did find reference from right wing blogs stating that commenters on the Kos website made comments to that effect. But to Imply Kos is using the term "gassed" and used it in a headline is like you taking responsibility for every comment made on these RJ forums. And to imply that there is a headline, if you can't produce the date of this alleged headline, is flat out dishonest. The only reference to "gassed" in the comments archives that I could find was a commenter on May 21, 2008 referenced Lieberman's support for Saddam Hussein when he was gassing the Kurds.
Good journalists check their facts Glen.
And just maybe we dont like Sarah Palin because she has shown she is dumber than a box of rocks and not suited to be president of our country. Heck, she thinks Africa is a country (http://videocafe.crooksandliars.com/scarce/palin-did-not-know-africa-continent) and she cant even name the three signatories to NAFTA (hint- North America, how many countries are there in North America?).
Some may consider calling out her lack of fitness might be an act of patriotism, out of love for our country. It doesn't mean we "hate " Sarah Palin, we just think she is Stoopid! and unfit.
So Glen, I searched Kos (http://www.dailykos.com/search)website high and low for the "Gassed" headline....I cant find it...Can you help me?

let's face it- times are tough for newspapers too- and when a small town paper has but one conservative writer- they need to keep him even when he makes little sense- and fails to sway people with his rants. I like reading richter- it's like our own little rush wannabe and he can't measure up- even to that oxy addled fat pig if a man rush. so this week's column will likely be a work over of arahant and JimNs posts with a touch of anna thrown in for good measure. But what it comes down to-6% NOT 2 and lots and lots of beautiful electoral votes ahead of McCaged. and that is that.

Thanks for the compliment, I didn't think you thought arahant, anna or myself worth reading let alone working over. I don't know about the other 2 but this is making me blush. You have a secret crush on us. You really agree with us but you feel you've backed yourself into a corner and don't know what to do. My suggestion just come out of the closet and declare your secret right wing beliefs. We'll welcome you don't be afraid.

The following is Glenn Richter's reply:
As for the “gas Lieberman” thing: That was weeks ago, so I can’t prove it. Nor can I prove that TeresaInPa sent a post saying that comment should be hidden — you know, on the level where only trusted posters (translation: true believers) can read it, so that casual perusers don’t get the right idea. And I’m certainly not an insider, so I can’t check. Are you?
When it comes to Sarah Palin, though, I see that you’re more than happy to believe the anonymous sour-grapes McCain staffers who Campbell Brown said were the source of several smears that CNN found to be “patently false.” Don’t look now, but your blinders are showing: If Palin did misspeak and call Africa a “country,” that proves she’s an idiot; but when Obama misspoke and said he’d been to “57 states” and was running for “commander and chief,” that makes him a genius.
When the vicious lefty attack machine lunged into action against Palin, it was never about countering her positions; it was about crushing and destroying her personally. Later, they did the same to “Joe the Plumber,” who wasn’t even a public figure. Their feeding frenzy produced, in just a day or two, the following gems, all critical to the fate of the Republic: The pregnant daughter (who was not a secret); the husband’s 1986 DUI (shocking!); the theory that her Down syndrome baby is really her grandson (now there’s an issue: Bristol must be a real slut); the list of hundreds of library books she allegedly tried to ban (bogus); a former employee who says Palin’s a meanie; and, of course, Troopergate — the final report on which, produced by an independent counsel for the Alaska Personnel Board and released the day before the election, says, according to the AP, that “there is no probable cause to believe Palin or any other state official violated the Alaska Executive Ethics Act in connection with the firing.”
As for your question: Can I help you? Probably not.

I didn't say you didn't read us, I said I didn't think you thought we were worth reading. I don't ever remember reading a political column in my life, I have never seen Rush or Hannity unless I passed by them changing channels and I wouldn't recognize them, I caught Blitzer and the other guy he's on with the same way changing channels. I confess I did pay attention to Glenn Beck for a few minutes when he had that Penn or Teller person on and then again Ted Nugent though I didn't watch the whole thing. I deal daily with truckers, small and large business owners, people in the UK, Asia, international shippers and forwarders and my views are derived from these interactions at the real world level, not press releases and spins put out by people who have no clue what it's truly like working for a paycheck or people like Snoopy, idealists who truly want to believe things will change for the better. Sad part is it doesn't matter who won this election that's just putting a coat of paint on a building that is collapsing on itself.
How many incumbents of both parties retained their seats? As long as America keeps the same people doing the same thing are we ever going to get better or improve our country I don't think so. You wanted change you got it, I just think you should have changed everyone in power at the same time. Then we may have had a chance. Now I just see scary things in the future because if things don't change quickly for the good and we both know they can't, the blame will probably come down to a racial issue which it isn't but will probably be viewed as such. Yet had the congressional make up changed it would probably be looked at differently. Blame could have been spread. The politicians who are still there will blame him claiming they are just following his lead just like they blame everyone but themselves.
Enough for now. Remember when you're ready to come out of the left wing closet you will be welcomed. Don't forget the gun and knife show coming up next weekend in Windsor Locks maybe we'll meet there;)

no closet here Jim- but gee, thought by your posts you read a bit. I do read- my work enviornment is surrounded by newspapers, books and writers of such. so I read 3 newspapers a day and probably 60 or more novels a year. then, there are magazines- music, news, food and wine. But I'm still not swayed from my basic thoughts. republicans=evil - something my grandfather and his brother taught me 50 years ago as Democratic party committee members and I've never given it up. Being Italian, they also taught me to hold a grudge for life and then, if you outlive the person, pee on their grave if at all possible. it's the old world way- and I'd not change it for all the technology in the world. That's why I cheered nixon and reagans deaths, will dance when little george or cheney kicks and love to taunt right wingers. It's all just for amusement. My life really has never changed with whoever is in power. Wife, two kids a job and a steady buzz. that's about it. So, other than agita if McCaged won, nothing would have been different- except the possible loss of am few more cival rights and a 100 year war in Iraq, of course......

I do read quite a bit as you do 3 newspapers daily plenty of books I prefer fiction, I never see a movie based on a book I've read I have my own imagination and don't need someone telling me how to picture something. Magazines and the like, repair my own home and bikes,do wood craft, I just don't read political columns or watch it. Maybe it's an ego thing I don't need to be told how to think or what people actually said after I've heard their own words. I don't hold grudges, I won't give anyone that power over me. Because if I hold a grudge that person is living for free in my mind and my life. Took a lot to learn that but I did.
Let's keep agreeing to disagree.

A response to dchampagne.
I find it extraordinary that countless conservative right wingers make statements that can not be verified. How convenient that it is no longer there. Nothing irritates the right wingers like fact checkers. Even Sarah Palin complained about people fact checking her speeches. The translation is "please let me say whatever I want to achieve a political advantage".
As far as "Joe the Plumber" goes, he made himself a public figure. Funny thing is that he is not a plumber, doesn't own a business, is not even buying a business, would actually save money with Obama's tax plan, and as an extra added bonus owes back taxes. He constantly appeared at Mccain rallies representing himself as something he wasn't until he got a recording deal. Maybe he can pay those back taxes now. I saw an interview "joe" gave to Fox news. He said something so outrageous that even Shep Smith had to reprimand him.
As far as Sarah Palin is concerned, why can't you accept the fact that an overwhelming majority of people felt she was not qualified to be President. It has nothing to do with gender. She readily accepted the GOP attack dog role, making outrageous statements, then was shocked when the Dems returned fire. As an American, I want to know more about her husbands membership in the Alaska Independence Party, her giving speeches at there meetings and her attempt to appoint the leader (you should see his web page) to the Wasilla town council. This wasn't 20 years ago, this was within the last few.
Some thoughts on Lieberman. Does he really think that the world revolves around him? when he ran for office as an independent, he said he was an independent democrat. He promise no attacks on the Dem nominee, the reneged. He actively supported McCain, speaking at the GOP convention and appearing with McCain at campaign events. So now he acts like nothing happened. News flash to Joe, "the lights have changed". The Dems don't need you for a majority, and many are angry at your actions. Didn't you think this was a possibility or are you that self centered?

As for your question: Can I help you? Probably not.
First off, you lead with an allegation that Kos headlined "Lieberman must be gassed." When called on it, you can't produce the cite and instead say, its secret, I cant prove it.
Wow! Zero credibility on anything in your column ever again. You may be factually accurate in future columns but how will we ever know?
Sarah Palin's "misspeaking" about Africa as a country in itself doesn't prove anything. But add that to all her many other "misspeakings" since her being picked by McCain shows us a "pattern of ignorance" on worldly issues. Not a big deal for a Governor of Alaska, but a big deal for being a "heartbeat away" from the presidency. The McCain camp did not vet her. The "liberal" (and centrist) media had to do his job. The McCain camp never let her loose to have a press conference. They kept her from the media. Now we know why.
As to Troopergate, as I had stated before, the bipartisan, republican dominated legislative panel (http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003873266) found that Palin abused her authority. The Alaska personnel board, which was hand picked by Palin herself, exonerated her. Which one would you believe? Oh, I'm sorry, those are just facts.
Radical "liberals" like Eisenhowers, Nixons, Powells, Welds, Goldwaters and Buckleys deserted the McCain campaign, jumped ship and endorsed Obama. McCain staffers and Bush Republicans alike admitted she was unqualified. Are they all part of the "lefty attack machine?"
This was not a vast left wing attack on Palin, this was America seeing for themselves that she was unqualified to be VP, and that McCain exercised poor judgment in choosing her, and in not vetting her. How can you choose a secessionist and then claim "America First?"
As to the right wing smears about Obama regarding Bill Ayers, in which you willingly participated, after fact-check organizations consistently showed there was no connection, why is that OK and the other not so? The electorate spoke and chose to believe the info about Palin and not believe the allegations about Ayers. They also didnt care about Ayers, or what Republican (Annenberg) charity boards he served on. And in the era of the internet and Youtube, Rovian tactics of lies and smears are much less effective.
And Joe the plumber was just some registered Republican guy from Ohio. Its the McCain campaign that desperately latched on to him and thrust him into the national media. Its the McCain camp that exploited him and made him an issue. Dont blame the "vicious lefty attack machine."
So now that America is facing huge challenges Glen, are you going to work to put "America First" and offer constructive suggestions to the national dialog to trigger discussions about how we may move forward as a country?
Or are you going to "cut and run" and repeat unsubstantiated right wing talking points and spend as much time tearing down Obama as the right wing smear merchants did on Clinton? We already have one Rush Limbaugh, we don't need another clone.
Criticism is part of the dialog, and is welcomed, but unless its constructive criticism, it just wastes energy and everybody's time.
And No Mr Richter, you probably cant help me. I seek the facts.

I'm not "ranting" on Mr. Richter, just suggesting he follow a standard of journalism.
And phrasing the suggestion as a question is dishonest itself. Of course Mr. Richter is not dishonest. By using the question format, I don't have to prove that Mr Richter is dishonest, I am only suggesting that it may be true. By doing this you don't have to hold me to a standard of truth, because I didn't claim that Glen Richter was dishonest.
This tactic, the innuendo question, is used all the time by Fox News and other RW outlets. "Is Obama a Muslim?" I didnt say Obama is a Muslim so I don't have to offer proof or documentation that Obama is a Muslim. I only infer it by asking the question.
Using this tactic one can infer all sorts of untrue crap. Tune to Faux News to see this technique in action. Pay attention to their crawlers at the bottom of the screen. Try not to laugh too hard.
Fox News- We deceive, you believe.

good job flat rat. Was looking forward to more of a discussion here from Mr Richter.
I think the problem is that too few people bother to actually check the facts. With the internet it is quick and easy now. The RW smear machine got away with it for a long time, but now the fact checkers are making their lives miserable.
I almost never watch Fixed news, except for some comic relief.
