We live in an older subdivision that parallels Mt. Vernon Road, and have lived there over 20 years. Yesterday, being one of those perfect fall days, we were doing some yard work, and my husband commented, "Ah - a lovely autumn day in New England, with the sound of gunfire echoing off Southington Mountain..."

We've gotten pretty used to the gun shots, and it never really bothered us, but lately we hear HUGE bursts of gunfire as well as waves of repeating shots. I feel bad for the folks who live around the range, as I'm sure they were also used to regular target shooting, but it sounds like machine guns are going off up there!

Are we the only ones that have noticed this?

Ranges usually have strict rules against repeat fire on thier ranges, Most likely some careless shooters and a range guard who let it go.

It would be appropriate to contact the range and let them know what the neighbors are hearing and that it bothers them. Ask them to keep a closer eye/ear on this.

Thanks, Chriss P - You're right. I should check with the range, but I'm surprised that the folks living very close to it haven't voiced concern...

We have a neighborhood email chain in our area, which is a great way of communicating with everyone, and I'm so surprised nobody has brought it up!

What I am experiencing living in this crowded condo/apartment area is that people have so much problems, they overlook things that are problematic to me and those things go completely ignored.

Its also possible others are bothered but someone has to take the first step so others don't feel alone in solving issues.

We had a broken window in a condo just carboarded up for 6 months and I was thinking I was the only one who complained about this until I met another owner who also disliked it and thought he was the only complainer.

We got together and filed multiple complaints.

These are scenarios that are possible in your case.
