ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) -- Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her power as Alaska's governor and violated state ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law fired from the state police, a state investigator's report concluded Friday.
I can't wait to hear how the republicans are going to spin this one. A bi-partisan investigation found that Palin abused her power. This investigation was voted for unanimously by a bi-partisan state legislature. The McCain campaign chose a VP choice very similar to our current VP. Abuse of power, failure to cooperate in an investigation, and passing the blame onto the democrats. Country first? Change? Seasoned experience? That's right people. Last I saw, Bush had an approval rating of about 20%. Lets elect another president just like Bush with a corrupt VP just like Cheney. That'll certainly help our country out of the largest economic disaster since the Great Depression. Lets elect a guy with one foot in the grave with a VP that has less experience than the guy they keep slinging mud at.
Wasn't there a thread about how common sense went extinct? Here is another example of a lack of it.

Gee whiz, by golly she's just gonna have to get back to us on this one.
perhaps this is what she meant when she stupidly claimed she'd expand the powers of the vice president. It's painfully obvious that when they reached into the barrel for a "joe six pack" vp, they reached all the way to the bottom, scraped around a bit and came up with this bimbo.
love the polls.

The pundits on both sides seem to agree that picking Palin as VP was enough to derail the McCain campaign. He didnt need the economic crisis. She is everything she says she insnt. His willingness to "gamble" with such a gimmick speaks volumes about his core being, and his ability to lead in a crisis.
She was so obviously a gimmick, with no substance, willing to opine on just about everything. Hiding her from the press wasnt enough to save her. Ignorant people who are sure of themselves scare me.
All that is left is for McCain to finish out his campaign with dignity, so he will be remembered historically for who he used to be, not for who he has become in the last two months. Can he do it?

McCaged has already promised to attack at the final debate- that should be good- that pudgy face all red with anger, confusion and just plain right wing venting. I'm sure he'll falter- maybe twitch a bit.
at first palin looked like someone right up their alley- but even cheney is smarter than she. And that's saying something...
this is just getting better by the day- finally, a chance to redeem America in the eyes of the world. and a fine way to shore up the non-legacy of little george, his failed policies and ideas and and tyranical ambitions.

The more I get to know Sarah Palin, the more I detest her!
Being a "hockey Mom" is no qualification to being second in line to the Presidency after a cranky old type-A geezer---even BEFORE this economic disaster and the subsequent so-called Bail-Out happened!
Wearing lipstick is not a qualification for perhaps the once most powerful office in the world, pitbull or not!
Having cutting-edge-of-fashion frameless lenses doesn't mean a thing when it comes to being responsible for the lives of so many of us on this planet.
Being perky and cutsey-cute does nothing for the vast division that now exists in our country. In fact, this little gal has probably done more than even McCain the Short-Tempered One to incite hatred and bigotry with her venomous insinuations against Barack Obama, a man whose biggest sin according to her seems to be the name his parents gave him!
As a woman and a feminist, I am disgusted that she should be the example we have to hold out to our children as one of the first women to be selected as a candidate for the Vice Presidency. When I think of powerful women, I think of Bella Abzug, Gloria Steinem, and Hillary. I don't look at Palin's dimples, her twinkles, her her empty-headed dangerous loose-cannon comments and immediately think, "Hey! What a nasty, vile little thing with archaeic beliefs: That's PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL!!!"
The qualities that many Americans seem to be mistaking for STRENGTH is simple PSYCHOPATHY! IT is NOT a good thing to tell other people how to run their lives, how many children to have,or to refer to a gentleman opposite oneself in a debate as "THAT ONE"! It is NOT a good thing to espouse a Let-Them-Eat-Cake philosophy when people are hungry. It is NOT a good thing to take from the Many and give to the Few, just because the Few are your friends! It is NOT a good thing to be intentionally cruel and not give a hoot about those less priviledged than oneself.
And being LOUD does NOT make one RIGHT! Where has decorum gone? And compassion? And empathy? Tolerance? Even simple kindness?
I hope that when Barack wins next month, that he is able to remind us what being a gentleman is about, how to love our neighbors as ourselves as that wild-eyed radical Jesus once preached. Barack will show us how a gentleman behaves and conducts himself, how he loves and honors his wife and children, how he is strong yet caring, firm yet compassionate.
Enough of this crazy meanness! Eight years has been far too many!

Palin Makes Troopergate Assertions that Are Flatly False
October 12, 2008 6:56 PM
On Saturday, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin twice spoke to reporters about the so-called "Troopergate" scandal and the investigative report on whether she had abused her power in trying to get her sister's ex-husband Mike Wooten fired as a state trooper, and for firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan one year after she, her staffers, and her husband Todd began unsuccessfully pressuring Monegan to let Wooten go.
Palin spoke on the phone with Alaska reporters about the report. The McCain-Palin campaign only allowed one question per reporter. The journalists came from the Anchorage Daily News, KTVA-Channel 11 and KTUU-Channel 2. No follow-ups were allowed.
"Well, I’m very very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing," Palin said, "any hint of any kind of unethical activity there. Very pleased to be cleared of any of that."
That's just not the case.
One can make the argument, as Palin and her allies have tried to do, that this investigation -- launched by a bipartisan Republican-controlled legislative body -- was somehow a partisan Democratic witch hunt, but one cannot honestly make the argument that the report concluded that Palin was "cleared of any legal wrongdoing" or "any hint of unethical activity."

The only thing palin is, is a distraction from the real subjects that the two people running for president should be takling about. Palin is nothing more than a pretty face and a distraction. Thats what the R's do,they distract from the important topics and the news media follows....All the attention given to her is a negative for McCain. We are not voting for the second on the tickets we are voting for the top of the ticket.....Who cares what she thinks, what she reads (if she reads), and what she wears. Lets focus on the issues at hand.:D

Partially true...Palin is much more than a distraction. She is a reflection of John McCain's judgment and an indication of how he would govern. How seriously do you think he vetted her? She is another example of McCain's erratic impulsive responses to crises.
She is a dangerously unqualified radical hatemonger, with ties to America hating secessionists, and an extremist religious cult. If 72 year old McCain wins the election, she could be our president. Even the conservatives are fleeing this one.
Her local hometown newspaper calls her a liar.

How is it that Sarah Palin's past bothers most of you but Obama's past doesn't? Somebody please convince me that Obama is the right guy without using the argument that McCain is the same as Bush or we need change, or whatever nice little tag line you have. I am seriously wondering what it is about Obama that appeals to you.

He appears to be intelligent. He went to Harvard and didnt graduate at the bottom of his class. He didnt get in because his father was famous. He pronounces words correctly. He is calm and cool headed. He doesnt lose his temper or his cool. His comments on foreign policy indicate a refreshing insight into how the world really operates and how important it is to maintain lines of communication with all foreign powers, friend or foe, an opinion backed up by the last five secretarys of state and numerous generals. He is an achiever. He came from a middle class background and achieved much in his life. He wasnt born with a silver spoon, like McCain and Bush, didnt attend rich prep schools and hasnt exhibited the character flaws of failure like they have.
He respects women.
I think he will restore diplomacy.
He seems to get it. He doesnt operate in the world of silly little condescending phrases like "cut and run."
He doesnt obsess over reformed minor terrorists from 40 years ago. he looks forward, not backward.
I'm hoping he has respect for our constitution, and will honor the principles of habeas corpus and stop spying on American citizens without a warrant. I hope he will restore law to our society and not operate under the principle of "its legal because I'm the president," and "Warrants? I dont need no stinkin' warrants."
I dont believe he will compromise the identities of undercover CIA agents, for political gain and personal vendetta, and then lie about it and try to cover it up.
I believe he will restore respect for America in the eyes of the world. I think he will seek and recruit the "best and the brightest" for positions in his government and not hire political hacks like Little Abu Gonzalez, "heckofajob" Brownie, and unqualified supreme court nominee and Bush buddy Harriet Miers. I think he will value competence over loyalty.
I think he will stop stacking the Supreme court with far right extremist federalist justices like Scalia and Alito. I suspect his next supreme court pick will be a woman, with philosophies that reflect mainstream America.
I think he will understand how important it is for America to be a moral example in the world, and will condemn torture and understand that torture as an interrogation method does not work and will only get you the information the tortured person thinks you want to hear, not actionable intelligence.
I think he will unite, and not divide our country. I understand some people are not able to be united, due to their extreme views. But most Americans need to and want to unite to face our complex challenges in the coming years. I think the Obama rhetoric will be uniting, not divisive.
I think he will orchestrate a safe and graceful exit from the money pit known as Iraq. I think he will appropriate some of the taxpayer funds that have lined the pockets of Halliburton executives and Iraqi "bought and paid for" puppet politicians, and use that money to improve the lives of Americans back home.
I think he will think twice about launching colonialist wars into sovereign nations without the support of the world community. I dont believe he will invade the wrong country. If he does go to war, I think he will adequately outfit the troops, and provide for their physical and emotional needs upon return. I dont think he will fire all the generals who disagree with his "vision." He has already stated he will seek out differing views.
I dont like his willingness to escalate the war in Afghanistan. That troubles me. I need to be shown that its necessary, and will succeed. We had our chance in Afghanistan, and we let it slip away frm neglect. It will be much harder now.
Look at how John McCain has run his campaign. It has lurched from one point to another and has no direction. He has made one huge mistake after another. How one runs a campaign is a good indicator of how one will govern. If John McCain cant even run a competent campaign, how can he run the huge American government?

Insinuating that McCain is not intelligent is ridiculous. Doing a little research you would discover his low class ranking in the Naval academy was due to him not always following the rules, not his IQ. They are both intelligent men although Obama certainly has more charisma.
As far as his foreign policy…one man’s insight is another man’s arrogance.
Again doing a little research you’d find that Obama attended Punahou School a private prep school in Honolulu.
I’m really not sure what you are referring to by “character flaws of failure”. How do you judge character? By a person’s actions and associations?

I think he will stop stacking the Supreme court with far right extremist federalist justices like Scalia and Alito. I suspect his next supreme court pick will be a woman, with philosophies that reflect mainstream America.
Obama would definitely not appoint a right leaning let alone right-wing extremist to the court. He will most certainly appoint a far left-wing extremist which in either case I don’t believe is mainstream America.
I think he will understand how important it is for America to be a moral example in the world, and will condemn torture and understand that torture as an interrogation method does not work and will only get you the information the tortured person thinks you want to hear, not actionable intelligence.

In order to unite something there has to be a meeting in the middle, to find common ground. McCain has a history of, as politicians call it, reaching across the aisle while Obama has never done so. Past performance is a good predictor of the future.

Both agree we need to end the war, how to go about it is where they differ slightly. Before we pull out and hand that region back to al Quida I wish one of them would convince me that we are going to secure our borders at home so we just don’t let any Tom, Dick or Osama come strolling in to this country.

Maybe he should have been a community organizer instead of wasting all those years in the House and Senate. I think examining their past voting records is a good indicator of where they stand politically and examining who they associate with is a good indicator of who they are personally.
Briefly
1. I never said McCain was unintelligent. He did appear to underachieve in his younger days. You call it "not following the rules," I call it spoiled, and undisciplined. His past reminds me so much of Bush's, except Bush was a better pilot.
McCain was against torture. I admired his when he stood up to Bush on that. They he capitulated and supported the Bush torture policies. Of course, under the Bush definition of torture, McCain wasnt tortured while a POW. I lost my respect for McCain at that time. I still respect the "old" McCain, but cant seem to find him anymore.
2. No, I dont think McCain respects women. His past comments, the way he has been reported to have treated his wives, and other behaviors clearly show that. The "air quote" on the abortion question last night wont help him either.
3. Yes, minor terrorist. How many times does McCain have to jump up and down and scream about Ayers. People dont care. Obama had no "secret" relationship with the distinguished professor from Chicago. All the factcheck sites confirm this. But the lie keeps being repeated.
4. McCain the "maverick" had plenty of opportunities to speak out against Republican abuses in the last 8 years...
5. I think Obama will "reach across the aisle" in his administration. He has already so indicated. Give him a chance.
6. Unfortunately to many McCainiacs, mainstream ideology appears to be "extreme left." It all depends on your starting point and your perspective.
7. McCain doesnt want to 'end" the war in Iraq. He wants to "win" it. Like Captain Ahab chasing the white whale, he seems obsessed with "winning."
We already went through this in Vietnam. Check out the wall to see how many died because of pride and stubbornness. I think Obama has the diplomatic finesse to extricate us from the war without losing face or lives.
Its frustrating to see history repeat itself. Its like we dont learn from our mistakes.
8. I stand by my statement that if McCain cant run a coherent, error free, tactically efficient successful campaign, how can he manage the American government? How you manage your campaign is a microcosm of how you would manage the presidency.
9. And under the "who really cares?" category. Obama was wearing an American flag pin last night and McCain wasnt. Of course, it means nothing, but dont anyone tell Michelle Malkin. She may need to up her psych meds..
But that's all just my opinion, I could be wrong.....

I'm not defending stupidity, but the son was 10 years old, not 6.
He said that he was a new Taser instructor, and his stepson was asking him about the equipment. "I didn't shoot him with live, you know, actual live cartridge," Wooten said.
Instead, he said, he hooked his stepson up to a training aid "with little clips. And, you know, the Taser was activated for less than a second, which would be less than what you would get if you touched an electric fence. ... It was as safe as I could possibly make it."
He said his stepson was on the living room floor surrounded by pillows, that he "was bragging about it," and that the family laughed about it.
Asked whether it was a dumb decision, Wooten told CNN, "absolutely."

A Republican majority bipartisan investigation determined that Palin and First (Stalker) Dude's involvement went far beyond trying to get a trooper disciplined for bad judgment.
And First dude's involvement with AIP means he wouldn't get a national security clearance.

He was out of line. He admitted it. he was investigated. He was disciplined. All within the Alaska State Police. The actions of the Palin first duo were found to be a violation of the ethics laws for the state of Alaska. In fact so much so, that The Anchorage Daily News called their sitting governor a liar.
Whether Trooper Wooten tased a 6 year old, a 10 year old, poached a moose, or washed the pope's feet, all have nothing to do with the fact that Sarah and "Stalker Dude" acted unethically.
And yes, in the unlikely event one of Meriden's finest were to taser a juvenile or otherwise act outside the scope of his employment, he would be employed the next day. He is entitled to due process, which takes time. He might be fired, but certainly not the "next day." And he would be investigated by Meriden Police, State Police, or the states attorneys office, not by the governor, or her husband.
"Seems that Democrats have no issues with domestic violence."
I continue to be amazed at how you make analogies out of thin air.
OJ Simpson...Isn't he black? He may have been a Republican, given his pre 1994 income. He definitely would have suffered under Obama's tax plan...I don't think the Juice would have been running as a Democrat. I think there might tend to be more golf courses in Republican districts than Democrat districts. But then both OJ and Obama are black. Hey! Maybe we are onto something here. Is the name Orenthal muslim?
I dont have to attack "her" (that one!). As Senator Obama so eloquently stated in the debate "That's up to the voters to decide."
