Most fantasy football leagues begin their playoffs next week, which brings me to my question. Do you set your lineup based on matchups (i.e. which of your players are playing against weak opponents, such as the NY Jets defense) or do you set them based on starting ONLY your studs (i.e. Tom Brady starts, no matter who he's facing)?
I've heard thoughts both ways, but I tend to go towards starting the studs. I guess it's a matter of peace of mind. If I didn't start a stud and he scored twice, I'd be kicking myself a heck of a lot more than if my third-string WR scored twice off a weak defense.
In the playoffs...START YOUR STUDS!

In response to your Q. I would go with the studs. If you have mid range QB's, RBs and WRs, then it is always about the match ups. You would never bench a Manning (unless it Eli), Tomlinson, LJ, CJohnson, THOLT, etc. You may want to start a Kitna or a VYoung if they are playing poor p*** or run defenses. A good way to get this info is to look at the stats posted on the NFL.com web site about the teams. Most of the time this info is going to help you out. If your ever in a toss-up situation....go with the player you can watch on TV or the one you know that will just burn your opponent that week. An example - if you are playing an owner that is a huge Giants fan and you have Eli Manning or a Brett Farve and both are about the same in match-ups, START ELI! It will make him sick to watch his teams QB beat down on him in your fantasty game.
Good Luck
PS- Send us some of your Fantasy Football Teams Names! We are having a contest and I will post the best of 2006.

As EA noted, the top tier elite studs are never an option to remove.... however, 2nd tiered quality players need to be reviewed.
Ex. three weeks ago Ron Brown played Minn D. I consider R Brown to be a 2nd tiered player and noting Minn has the best run D, I removed him to play D Foster.
Well let me state, R Brown had ZERO rushing yards; zero points for the day.
I suggest not to second guess yourself but look at your line up objectively when it comes to any player outside of the few studs per position.
I have been a FF guru for over 15 years and have seen many games. remember one cardinal rule... we earn points based on how our players play, so if the match up is a tough one, you can't expect great results.

I guess I may be the elder statesman of the group having been in FF leagues for 25 years now, but I think you need to consider "ALL" options when choosing your lineup. Playing the studs is certainly a stress free way to pick a lineup, but it doesn't always work out for the best. It only let's you say, "I put up my best players and if I lose, I lose". Just look at this past week with Alexander. He would have been considered a stud back with a great match up but look how that turned out. Gut instinct with some good knowledge of the teams your players are up against is the best way to go. But what do I know, I'm in four FF leagues and made the playoffs in only two of them!
