Good friends of ours live in West Hartford, and we love visiting them there, as we can all go out for a quick bite at one of the numerous little restaurants available, and not have to spend a great deal.

Thai food, Indian food, Tapa's in particular is one of our big favorites - we'd love to have something like that in Southington.

I know we have a Japanese restaurant on Queen Street, and I hope it's doing well. Japanese is not one of our favorites, but we'd love somewhere else that could offer healthy, interesting & affordable food. We love love love the new Thai restaurant in Plainville called Somewhere in Bangkok - it's lovely inside, the servers are great, and the food is tremendous (kinda pricy, tho).

Are we the only ones in Southington that are tired of pizza as a quick take-out or cheap dinner out? We love pizza, but more choices would be great.

Also...we need a Whole Foods!! We've certainly got everything else now.

Anyone out there have any ideas for a nice little restaurant?

I agree with your post about more variety, I live in Meriden and you can't swing a dead cat without hitting an Italian/Pizza joint.

Am I mistaken or does Southington have Agave (Mexican), Wood N- Tap (American), Aziago's *(very good Italian place), and Peurto Valarta (Mexican)?

Sure, we have Mexican restaurants in town, and they are both good, but not anything unusual. I notice that the chain restaurants in town are always busy, while places like Asiago's (which we like a lot, too) are not so much. Ruby Tuesday, Chili's, etc. all do a great business it seems.

Glad you mentioned Asiago's, tho, as I forgot they have the cafe, which makes a great pannini sandwich - great for a quick takeout!

I'll have to disagree on the Mexican food statement, I've yet to locate any place in the state of CT that has decent Mexican food.

There used to be a good place in Old Saybrook - the Cuckoo's Nest? That was considered good, but I think it's gone now.

What constitutes good Mexican food for you? I've never been to Mexico and don't know anyone from there who could make me an authentic dish. I know they do a lot with corn & beans, both of which I enjoy, but that's where my knowledge of their food ends.

I lived in south Texas for 15 years. Like up here but with Mexican food, you can't walk 15 feet without running in to a Mexican food joint.

I recently tried Charlie's Pizza inside of the Village Barn in South Meriden - it was excellent...good brick oven pizza for a great price. And we cant forget about Little Rendevous!

Anyone else have a recommendation for good pizza?

Little Rendevous is great! We have moved to Meriden in the past two years and this is our favorite.

I used to live in Southington. Fratelli's is great - but italian. And isn't there the new italian place on west street (the old 1615 west)? Wouldn't it be great if they put a few neat restaurants where the new target is going up? Maybe not a chain, just something different...

Sorry I'm catching this late, but just wanted to mention we actually have 2 sushi restaurants on Queen St. now. I couldn't imagine why Noble would start one up right across the street from Tokyo - they are in the Wal-Mart Plaza - but once we ate there, we never turned back! We've had nothing but great food and service there!
