MASA started fall ball this week, mens and coed. I am curious to see if there is any feedback from the players. As most should be aware, a few things are different from the spring: MASA is maintaining the fields, the games are seven innings, in the coed division, wood bats are being used by the men, and the first game starting time was pushed back from 6:00 to 6:30.
MASA does have one big request from players and fans....please keep the bench areas, the grass areas, and the parking lots clean, free of garbage, cups, cans, and bottles. The City of Meriden is paying close attention to how the fields and field areas look. The MASA board would hate to have to go back and forth with the City over a messy area.

Fall Ball is great thus far, not sure if you weeded out the good umps for the fall, but they have been great. Fields look really nice, especially having it lined all the way down into the outfield. Definitely miss 9 innings but it's understandable for Fall...but please make sure we go back to 9 for the Spring. For spring/summer next year, I think the start times should be 6:30, 7:45, and 9:00 just like this fall. It makes it so much easier for guys to make games on time. I remember Doug at the meeting at PBA saying "we did 6:30, to give you enough time to make the game"...I think it's great but we should do it in the spring as well, especially when there are more games to be played. Glad MASA was able to get this done for us, I know my team and myself really appreciate it. Nice job!!

I agree, I think everything is perfect. The fields are as nice as I've ever seen them, probably because time and a little effort was put into them :D I love the lines down the field and the times are perfect. MASA should just take over what the city isn't willing to support. I know they can't but it would be nice. Great job.
Not sure on travesty rules is it 15 after 4 or 15 after 5? We had a game called short three nights ago because the ump said its 15 after 4. Now tonight we are winning buy 20 and are we are told we must go 5 innings. What is the rule. Besides that question everything is great. Fields have never looked better.

The travesty run limit is 12.
There has been a little confusion with some umps on the travesty inning because of the reduction to a 7 inning game, but the inning rule stayed the same -- 4 1/2 if the home team is winning, 5 full if the home team is on the short side of the score.
Just tell us the games you had the confusion - do not need to name the umps, and we will get the umps straightened out.
Glad you guys like the look of the fields -- the MASA board members are really working hard to improve the look. Board members are up there every weekday (mind you after they get out of their own jobs) to get the fields ready and are up there on the weekends. If you guys noticed, games at Nessing were played on the Monday after all the rain we got on 9/12 and 9/13
Board members were up on Nessing all day Sunday the 14th, sucking water off the fields, turning the infields over, dragging the infields and mowing the outfield.
The Board still needs the cooperation from the teams regarding "beverage" cans and "beverage" boxes being properly discarded. Wednesday morning, 9/17, one board member stopped up at Nessing to check the fields. He wound up spending an hour (b4 his work) picking up beverage cans and cardboard. The teams need to put the cans/bottles and any other garbage in the garbage cans. If the garbage cans are full, put the discarded stuff neatly by the garbage cans. The Board would hope the teams would treat the fields as if they were their own backyards, keeping the area as clean as possible.

So far so good!!!!...I have seen a big turn out at Ben Nessing Park, totally like the fact that we can start a little later as oppose to Spring/Summer 6pm (gives our players ample time)..Our team seems to be enjoying and doesn't mind the weather. We had a couple of rain-outs (No Biggie)...I witness first hand after one of our 9pm games, Board members cleaning and prepping the fields....very satisfy!!!!!!!;) :p ;) :p ;) :p
When is the start date? How are the teams selected?

The playoffs will start next week.
All mens with the exception of JR Plumbing and Chef's Hat will be included in the playoffs. Best record seeding - does not matter what division you are in.
Example -- C Division team 11 and 1 -- A team 10 and 2 ---- C team is the number 1 seed. One pitch format, seven innings, single elimination.
Coed division - number 1 team gets a bye -- 2v7, 3v6, 4v5 -- single elimination, NOT one pitch - playoffs done in one night.

Ok, explain to me if all teams are seeded then how does Big Green play Gonzalez in thier first games when both tied at 10-2 for 1st place in the 'A' division? Shouldn't both teams be playing lower seeds even if it was a lower seeded 'A' team?

Three teams received byes for winning their divisions : Gonzalez, Dow, and Xclusive Cuts.
After the byes, 16 teams played the first round games.
8 teams plus the bye teams, advanced to the second round....which makes 11 teams. One of the 8 teams had to get a bye. To be fair, 8 slips of paper were put into a hat. 1 thru 7 and a bye. Reps from the 8 teams did a blind draw out of a hat. The bracket was set .... now it was just a matter of putting the team with the number. Pure luck of the draw.
There will be another bye draw on the final night when it gets down to the remaining 3 teams.
