My girlfriend and I started out to see "Because I Said So," for a night of silly entertaiment. By the time we got to the theater, the only thing we could see was "Last King of Scotland." We were riveted to our seats. The movie was disconcerting and plain scary. You felt like you were there, witnessing the charismatic appeal, the craziness and power of Idi Amin. Forest Whitaker was amazing. He brought Idi Amin to life, and as frightening and revolting a dictator he was, Whitaker also showed a a side of Amin that elicted some form of compassion for this megaloamanic man. The movie ended with actual news clips that were too hauntingly familiar. And we well remembered the infamous raid on Entebbe. It left us stunned and shaken.
Not good for an evening of light entertainment, but certainly a movie worth watching.
