When Tim looked at himself in the mirror that morning, he didn't think that he wouldn't be in that same spot tomorrow. Tim went about his day, like he did every day, living each day to the fullest. I admire Tim, for is work ethic, and for his heart, even though that was what led to his untimely death. But with his death, maybe other men will be empowered to take charge of their own health and visit a doctor. I know myself not being a fan of Doctors, mainly because so far though the years, they have killed off my relatives in malpractice issues, I'm thinking to myself, maybe it's time to go back for a checkup.
In any event, Tim will be missed, but will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew him, as well as in the countless hours of footage complied over the years. I just watched an episode taped in 2006 from when Tim was discussing one of his best selling books, and he was capitivating, and engaging in his story telling. In my opinion, he is by far one of the best journalists in the industry, and I wish his family my condolences. RIP Tim, and thank you for your many years of service to the News Industry.

FYI
Tim Russert was being treated for heart disease, hyper tension and diabetes. He was taking medication for the heart disease and exercised daily.

He should have been put on a diet by that doctor who was treating him. He was over-weight and needed to lose some of those extra pounds.

Hence the exercise he's was doing every morning.

Exercise and diet=weight loss. Over-eating and exercise won't help a 57 year old man lose much weight.

The only good medicine I know for heart disease are stents or bypass surgery. He may have known he had stenosis (narrowing of the arteries) and didn't want to take time off or go thru the surgery to correct it. Roy Orbison was also in this situation and put off treatment.
Maybe he gave medicine like plavix or other anti-coagulants a try and was putting off any surgical intervention. But any problem with a stress test - nuclear scan etc showing lack of blood to a portion of the heart should lead to intervention such as stents or bypass IMO.
Jim Fix ran marathons before his heart attack so excercise is not a cure for a bad diet. Some of us cant eat what we want and then expect excercise to be to cure if we have tendencies to have clogged arteries.

And how do you know he was actually exercising? Oh I know you read it. And I guess we are to believe everything we read.

Of course it wasn't from a doctor I heard on the radio with first hand knowledge of his health situation.
Did you know they performed an autopsy within six hours of his death? That's pretty quick. He had recently made a trip to Italy and they were concerned that his sudden death might have been related to his trip but after the autopsy it was determined that is was the heart disease that killed him.

He obviously had a problem with his weight, that's not to say being overweight was the reason for his heart attack, so the fact that his doctor was monitoring the health issues wasn't enough to save him from death, because the years of a poor eating habits had already taken their toll. It is like a smoker quitting smoking after finding out he has lung cancer, the damage was done long before.

Hello....
All this talk of his heart...
I watched his Memorial Service and saw exactly how many people his
heart touched. That is at issue here. Our loss of the man.
I took this poem from the service...
The Little Ship
I stood watching as the little ship sailed out to sea.
The setting sun tinted his sails with a golden light
and as he disappeared from sight a voice at my side
whispered " he is gone ".
But the sea was a narrow one. On the farther shore a
little band of friends had gathered to watch and wait
in happy expectation.
Suddenly... they caught sight of the tiny sail, and at
that very moment when my companion said " he is gone..."
a glad shout went up in joyous welcome, " Here he comes ! "
Rest in peace and Godspeed Tim.
