Does anyone know were to buy home security products in CT. Im looking for the Charley Bars that secure sliding windows and door. I know the broom handle trick but would like something that stands out better to a potential burgler.

Lowes and Home Depot are useless now for home security products.

Ebay usually has tons of different security devices.

I just did a quick search and came up with a few different ones:

Smith 629 N-Frame! Is that Smith custom shop magna-ports? Nice.

Though I recommend a Ultra CDP II from Kimber 1911. For most folks a lightweight compact .45 semi-auto is easy to carry, easy to shoot, and has great stopping power. The 29 is just a bear, thought ported might be ok for most.

Check out IBS Electronics and Security in Cromwell. They used to sell all kinds of security stuff, including hidden cameras in fake smoke alarms, (860-635-0001)

Most of the places we found in CT, businesses want to install them, not cheap. If you’re looking to deter a potential burglar, we got a nice security camera from radio shack. We paid $100 for this one, it was 50% off in the Meriden mall one http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2616760&cp=2032060.2032330.2032343&parentPage=family We found that criminals don’t like cameras of any kind and with this one you can hook it up to any TV and record on any v.h.s. Weapons are nice to have, but a lot people cant be home 24/7 to use it. Yes jma we saw some of those,Its unreal some of the stuff, they come out with today.

Love the .45, but most people need a simple "point & shoot". A good old .38 is more reliable, and basically idiot-proof. (although the thought of an idiot with a gun brings up other issues! )

You are correct jma. Not to hijack the thread, but i will say, that actually in the summer time a .38 detec spec or a .38 j-frame is nice an easy to carry when wearing shorts, a t-shirt, and loafers. Especially a picnic. The best firearm to have is the one you remember to carry. So many times people buy the wrong firearm and it ends up in the nightstand because its too heavy or too hard to control. Better to carry a 22LR because you can handle the weight than to not carry a .45. The kimber is lightweight but can be intimidating to some. I instruct people on defensive shooting. Starting them out with a large caliber and then working them down sometimes makes sense. The larger calibers sometimes end up being more scary in the trainees mind than in reality. The mind is the biggest obstacle to overcome. Having been in situations where I have had to consider using deadly force, I have to say, that a .38 on you is better than a .45 in your nightstand. In those situations, everything is very different than at the range practicing in relatively calm manner.

Well first off, I did find the bars at another HD. The guy at HD in Newington told me HD doesnt carry home security products anymore.

I went to the HD in Middletown for a anti-pry plate and walla the Charlie Bars and varius othe home security product were there. I'm on the first floor and someone now can walk right up to my patio door in a bit of seclusion so I put a table on my porch in front of the opening to the porch.

I'll follow up with a motion detector that beeps and energizes one outlet. I'll put a radio and small light of some sort on it. I also have shear curtains with my blinds to make it harder to look in and a porch roll down blind for privacy. Also I have bottle in the window frame. I may sneak in window alarms.

Entrance door will also be reinforced at the dead bolt along with the anti-pry mechanism.

I'll also get a digital timer and have maybe my police scanner hooked up to it.

Now for guns.

Middletown requires 3 references and a doctors note to get a hand gun. I'm not going to ask my doctor for clearence or ask my friends for references (I don't have gun toting friends). So I've settled for a Rugar 2-22 semi automatic rifle that I modified a bit 2 yrs ago thats torn down now. Maybe its time to re-assemble and head to the Blue Trail.

BUT ITS TIME TO GET A DOG DISH AND A BIG SET OF BOOTS FOR THE PORCH. What should I name my imaginary dog??? Anyone know were to get a bark recording that I can set off with the motion detector?

Thanks JMA for the Cromwell info. A camera may be pusing it a bit for an apartment complex due to rules. Maybe one on my window sill with the bottles ?

Radio Shack used to sell stickers for windows to indicate you have an alarm system. Not sure if they still do, but they're another way to deter burglars.

I ordered some fake security cameras off E-Bay. They're battery operated, with a flashing red light. My uncle's garage kept getting broken into. Since the "camera" was put up, there hasn't been a problem. I think I paid about $15.00 for both.
