The Town Council Meeting on May 13 filled the 1st floor of the chamber but the balconies were still empty. What topic would actually fill the chamber? On May 27th a replay of filling these seats because of a belief in participation in government and free speech would be true testimony to Wallingford citizens' commitment to open government - but the chances of a replay are very slim because our community does not understand what they have already lost. And they will continue to fail to leverage what they have without becoming engaged.
On March 25th a committee of the local public access channel WPAA proposed a plan (http://7towntv.org/TV_WLFD_CB.html) for community building that should have opened conversations about how to collaborate for the good of many by putting in motion a plan for more open participation in government, community sharing and emergency communications.
There is still time to support transparency, sunshine, informed opinion building and free expression and preserve an historic building as a symbol of turn-of-the century technologies...Get involved. Find out more (http://7towntv.org/TV_WLFD_CB.html). Come to the Parade Ground on Saturday afterNOON may 24th to begin your participation.
The Channel 8 reporter said - participation in government is alive and well in Wallingford...I told him this was a well orchestrated blip and if the seats were filled again on May 27th his NEWS would in fact be TRUTH. He dismissed me like I was begging him for a dollar, rather than giving him an opportunity to report beyond the moment. If he was reporting truth --why did so few understand the timing of the agenda, or how many votes were needed, the impact of a delayed councilperson. If this is true --- how many attended a town government meeting for the 1st time and committed to participate again?
Was there a puppeteer or is there participation - what is your opinion? Is participation in government alive and healthy in Wallingford? The school system has the most extensive email access into the community... will someone who has access to it - use it to get people out to save the public's voice, promote effective use of digital media and to create a center for the spirit of peoples participation in government at 41 so main st. spread the word. let's get viral for the community.
