Well it wouldn't be Meriden softball if there wasn't any games called due to rain from two days ago. Once again the city has shown it's "hard at work" mentality by getting all of the fields ready to play on after the rain we had two days ago, well all except one. Nessing one had the unfortunate fate of being skipped over. Why? Well I'm sure we can all come up with a few guesses  I just wanted to say I'm glad we are back to the same ole' routine with the city not being able to keep up with rainy conditions that happened two days ago it's good to see nothing has changed. Hopefully we'll get more of these "rainouts" we wouldn't want to push the city workers too hard.

I agree 100%...even at the MASA meeting this year they said a meeting was held with the mayor and the city manager to discuss this issue from last year. According to the MASA board the city admitted to not taking the fields seriously or as a priority last year and changes would be made this year. So what happens after the first rain of the year....the same thing as last year..."nothing". Wednesday was beautiful, no game on BN1, Thursday was beautiful, still no game on BN1. It's almost comical. I do not blame MASA at all. The city made promises they obviously cant live up to...no big surprise!

there wasnt a game at BN1 cause they took the time to fix the womens fields so they could start their season as well. Teams have to remember that its not just a mens league.

are you kidding me SoftballFreak22?? It does not take 2 days, oops 3 days to get fields ready...BN2 was not playable on friday either. I realize its not just a mens league, but apparently the city thinks it is. They ought to have enough workers taking care of ALL fields, men and women. They should be ashamed...3 days of no rain and no games for 3 nights. Please spare me the "Teams have to remember that its not just a mens laegue" crap!!!

One must also remember that Parks & Rec is tasked with getting Thorpe (soon to be renamed Dunn Field) for Maloney High School games. This should be a function of the BOE. However, both departments are stretched very thin. Truth be told, Parks & Rec was directed by MASA to get the women's field ready at the expense of Nessing #1.

In my years of MASA, Ive only seen 2 people work on the fields. The city doesnt want MASA around anymore. I feel your pain, I love playing more then the next guy,but some days **** happens and when it rains for a few days and the fields suck with drainage you just have to suck it up and stop complaining. If the fields were in perfect shape there would be problems with something else. Writing on a forum to voice your opinion doesnt do ****. Write to the mayors office or park & rec. I know the mayor plays and im sure he sees the problems. Im with you on when you think the fields need to kept up more.

I'll take slight issue with this one. Yes, I agree that more needs to be done to insure that all fields are ready for play, especially on days where not a drop of rain falls. But don't think for a second that the City Manager and the Mayor don't support MASA, because believe me, they do. Both have been playing for years, with Larry having played on my team for 28 years. It all comes down to money and time, and in a perfect world we wouldn't have these problems, but unfortunately we do. I will applaud MASA for leaving a detailed message on the hotline that day advising us all of exactly what the circumstances were. And also, it wasn't a great day weather-wise anyways....it drizzled most of the afternoon, and any of the other games might have been called had the rain picked up.
