What are you going to do today to celebrate Earth Day? I plan on going on a walk and picking up some litter along the way....

I grieved as I remembered the first Earth Day, actually. I had to drive back to Meriden from CCSU and decided to find the back roads way, down 71 to Chamberlain Highway. It's not exactly the scenic ride I remember from 20 years ago. So much of the farmland went for houses and development. Sad, but I thought of how important the fight to preserve open space in Meriden will be.

I know - it seems that new buildings/houses are going up all over the place, and not only in Meriden. It always amazes me that new buildings go up all the time, when so many older ones sit vacant for months or even years. I gues the "reduce, reuse, recycle" theme hasn't spread that far yet!

I know; I took such flak for trying to stop the city from demoing old historic buildings in Meriden. Wilcox building on Colony and old art deco bowling alley on Grove are the next on the list to be demolished. In terms of quality, workmanship and materials it is truly ecologically irresponsible not to recycle old buildings. Sure costs less to rehab and restore than to rebuild at today's prices. I remember they said 400,000. to rehab the Legere buildings on Colony was too much money. I'm dying to see how much it costs someone, now that the lot is empty, to: #1. Buy the lot and #2. Build a new building on the lot. Bet it will cost at least a million.

My reply is to spend less time on the forum. The content has deteriorated. Sorry to read you are enjoying EDS's absence; that was a rude comment.

I don't think that Mark is enjoying EDS absence. I think when he said "Are you on vacation? I hope so. " I think he meant that he hope Eds is on vacation and will be back soon. But I could be wrong.

For Earth Day clean up a little, make sure the birds and critters that feed in my yard have fresh food and clean water. They're the ones that matter.
Bleedmeout keep writing you appear to want to learn or find out something otherwise you wouldn't be on the forum.
Collie there is a god it's not you. People are allowed to express themselves as they choose.

I did not find as much litter as I thought - I filled about 3 grocery bags full. The path I took stayed clean for about 3-5 days before I noticed the litter was creeping its way back...oh well. Hopefully with going green being "trendy" right now more people will think twice before pitching something out their car window.

Hopefully with going green being "trendy" right now more people will think twice before pitching something out their car window.
But for some people it is "trendy" to be a disgusting, dirty pig who litter and make the area so unpleasant. I saw a young girl throw trash on the ground one day, and when an older woman said something to her the girl responded by saying "FU grandma." I guess it is also trendy to be rude to others.
