So-called mainstream media hasn't picked up on this topic yet; it is very interesting. Last week on the Tom Joyner morning show, the most listened to black radio in America, Tavis Smiley went off on Barack Obama, so to speak. Tavis' problem - Barack is too busy at the moment campaigning in Texas, Wisconsin and Ohio, to attend next Saturday's State of the Black Union (hosted by Tavis) in Louisiana. As a Tavis Smiley fan, this was shocking and eye opening. Every year I watch the annual State of the Black Union on C-Span all day long and I really enjoy the introspective discussions. I have purchased the Covenant books that came out of the unions every year and tried to make the goals attainable. I'm not the only Tavis Smiley supporter who is totally aghast at the venom he is displaying towards Obama's not being able to attend the event. After all, I'm sure Tavis Smiley knew dang well when the Louisiana primaries were and could have arranged the state of the black union to be held the weekend prior to the primaries, when Barack would have been in the area. But no, he is looking like a jealous man now and I'm not the only one who now suspects the rhetoric of past unions was a vehicle for Smiley to sell books, that he got over but good. And Hillary Clinton, desperate fool that she is, is going to attend this state of the black union. The best blog to check out on this topic, hundreds of people wrote, the vast majority slamming Tavis, can be found at Essencenotepad under an article written by Roland Martin entitled "Why Barack Obama should skip the black state of the union."

Collie, thanks for the info. I'm a big fan of the TJMS and was also very disappointed in Tavis. I'll check out the blog!
