The News
I turned on my television today
It was a bad day for the news
Nobody had been murdered
Or overdosed their livers with booze.
There was no gang crime for correspondents
Or a celebrity on drugs
No horrific fashion disaster
Or unpretentious football thugs.
Terrorists had disappeared
And Russia had a day of peace
There was no elections rigged
Or tales of refugee increase.
Nothing had been blown up
Not a politician to arrest
No news on World War Two
Or an environmental protest.
For once Africa was quiet
And even China heard silence
America had no serial killers
Or Israel any violence.
The British government was running smoothly
And with no War Lords to accuse
There was nothing to report on
A bad day for the news.
