View Full Version : Snow and Ice on Side streets

This morning on my way to work I was driving down Crown St and I could not believe how narrow it is. For a street that is supposed to have one lane in each direction it was very narrow. On multiple occasions I had to stop and let the person go that was coming in the opposite direction. It also appears that people ignored the parking banned and left their car on the street. I thought that driving today was worse than anytime yesterday during the storm.
That street is uniformly ridiculous regardless of the weather. People bomb up and down it, hogging the middle of the road, and barely move to allow another car by that is travelling in the opposite direction. I feel like I am playing a big game of Chicken every time I take that street to and from the RJ. One time, I lost. It had just snowed, and I was creeping down the street trying to avoid an oncoming Ford Explorer. The girl didn't feel that the middle of the road was enough for her, moved further towards my car, and swiped my side mirror with hers as she passed. The glass broke on both of our mirrors, and when I reversed back up to confront her she had the audacity to say "you broke my side mirror!"
....I almost lost it. Instead, I calmly informed her that my side mirror glass was also broken, and asked her what she wanted to do. I had no problem calling the police and wasting their time for two pieces of $75 side glass, because the tracks on the street showed that my Jeep was very far off to the side while hers were a total joke. After a moment's consideration, she gave me a snarling "let's just forget it," and sped off.
Have a nice day, lady.
I hate that street.

Side streets near me were awful, full of ice at 7 a.m. It was a relief to make it to a major thoroughfare and then to the highway. By 10 a.m. I made it up Columbus Ave. but it was a one lane situation and needed work. The school bus drivers must have had it rough this morning, even with a 90 minute delay, if side strrets were as I found them.
There are so many times that rudeness like that happens to me. Really burns me up. Seems certain individuals just think about themselves for whatever reason.
Reminds me of the time we were blocking traffic because of a down power line in the road. You would think that an emergency vehicle blocking the road with firefighters in turnouts would be an effective deterrent. Instead the car proceeds around the vehicle and then when the line starts sparking and thrashing everywhere the vehicle stops. Now its a rescue operation. All we could do was yell "GO! GO! GO!" to get the driver to continue proceeding without killing ourselves in the process.
I don't know for sure, but I think people are getting more and more rude and obnoxious on the roads every day. Or maybe I'm noticing it more. Who knows?
