The American Red Cross is set to host the 2nd Annual Betty Kroher Birthday Blood Drive in honor of the retired leader of the Southington Red Cross.
This year’s drive will run from 1:45-6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, at the Falcons Club, 33 Knowles Ave.
The blood drive pays homage to Kroher each year around the time of her birthday. She was the first and only executive director of the former Southington Red Cross, serving from 1964 until the chapter disbanded in 1992. She has been associated with the Red Cross since the late 1950s and continues to volunteer on occasion.
A special birthday salute and volunteer recognition will be held at 4 p.m. Anyone who volunteered or worked in any capacity at the Southington Red Cross during Kroher’s tenure is invited and encouraged to take part.
To celebrate the holidays, those who donate blood are automatically eligible to win one of the numerous raffle prizes available, including a commemorative Southington tapestry donated by the Greater Southington Chamber of Commerce.
