Looks like there is some interest in downtown. Hope something will work out with the Friends and the theater. I would think that at least until there is some more businesses down there, they could work out something for those two organizations to stay.

PePboys is leaving [ good ridence]... what will inhabit that  location... AutoZone should vacate their presence on prime West Main St. land, and Not the Arts! The 'HUB should have contained Columbus Baseball fields AND incorporated the Flood zone.....and had ENTERPIZE Zone development on Lewis...
I don't understand the wisdom of our local officials...

I always had good luck with service at Pep Boys. the inside sales was another story. i think a stronger mangement would have made the difference, but that being said; i will miss the conveniece of having them close.

I don't know what the answer to downtown it - I've lived here for almost 30 years and they were talking about it then....and they're still talking about it.

In my mind the only thing that would 'save' downtown is something like a college. You need a major draw - putting the police station and courthouse smack downtown was a huge mistake - people don't want to be there in the first place...either because it looks unattractive or dangerous or simply there is no easy parking - so the sight of lines of people in the court yard heading into court..is just makes it even more uninviting.

You can't put in something like a store...and "hope" people will come - you have to put something there that people HAVE to come too - but not a courthouse:rolleyes: ...a college, a major insurance company or something with tons of employees or students, something like that. How about an elementary school?..a private school. but that's not gonna happen.

I've often wondered if downtown should just be moved...like to the rather bustling east side. I don't know what the answer is.

;) Good post and idealz CATnip,,,
#1 people like 'downtown as quaint , and prime real-estate needs Non-Essential Gov't relocated:eek:
#2 people like wide open spaces like the new HUB and Hubbard park [make a nice 'Parking lot' for a major draw like Veterans Coleseum<sp> in the 80's in new HAVEN] >>> Jonie Mitchell tune playing now.
#3 Sports,Arts, or a CIRCUS field [like 100 yrs ago]
just don't fool with Mother Nature and that flood zone:cool:
