Mayor Bill Dickinson wins again! Are 57 percent of Wallingford people so unwilling to accept change in government that they won’t vote out of their comfort zone?

I think our fate is sealed until Bill Dickinson decides to retire! No matter how many people run against him, how many things he doesn’t do, how antiquated he keeps the town hall offices, he manages to come up on top. Welcome to Pleasantville - uh, I mean Wallyworld!

ROSE SCHEDE, WALLINGFORD

I like that. When the election did not go the way Schede wanted it to, she concedes defeat in a most pitiful way. If 57% of those in Wallingford who voted, wanted to keep Dickinson as mayor, then why are those people labeled as "not voting out of their comfort zone?"

Perhaps, just perhaps, those people actually like Dickinson and they voted for him because they support him.

Unfortunately, Rose, that is Wallyworld. Meriden isn't much better.

Unfortunately it goes far beyond him winning this. The fact that two others ran against him, gave him the win by default. The only question left was who would be the biggest looser, no not the tv show, but the real life biggest looser. Many have said that "it was Vumbaco, no it was Lucille, that cost us" bickering back and forth. I will tell you this, it is a sad day when one of the major parties in a town, or city can barely beat an unaffiliated opponent, but whos only candidate is the same guy that lost by 52% the previous election. I think that the bigger problem is not with Dickenson but with the Democratic Party. They are too busy not being able to tell their @$$ from their face to make heads or tails. Until they can get enough candidates to run (they didn't have enough originally for Board of Education) then how could they expect to win the mayors seat. Not only that, but how can they win, if the only person that they want to put up for the race is the same person that lost the last time around. Never mind the fact that now he wants to run for Town Clerk. So you loose 2 times, and becomes a pro he wants to do it some more. Listen, I don't care what anyone else thinks all I am saying is the Democratic town committee needs more unity, and they need to meld the rift that has formed before they will ever get a good candidate. I feel that reform should come from the top down. Start from scratch. Even though seats were gained in both board of ed and town council it is not enough to make a difference against the mayor. In town government the mayor has about 80% of the power, that power will never be obtained until the Democratic town committee gets back on their feet. That will not happen until the party is reformed, in it's entirety. This reminds me of an old adage, "If it ain't broke don't fix it" well it sure is broke, very badly broken, so is anyone going to fix it? It's a sad day when it seems like one of the nations major parties may become a third party.
